Some good info here. IMHO it had its day but now with Slip 2000 EWL, Sprinco’s Machine Gunner’s Lube, etc, I find it less compelling.

MILITEC-1 Did Not Pass Any Tests and Evaluations as a Small Arms Cleaner, Lubricant, and Preservative
The initial assessment of MILITEC-1 as a small arms lubricant began in April 1990, when DOD asked the Army to test and evaluate MILITEC-1 against the cleaning, lubrication, and preservation military specification. The Army performed a test and evaluation of MILITEC-1 in July 1990 and concluded that MILITEC-1 did not meet military specifications and could not qualify to become an approved product. Specifically, the Army determined that MILITEC-1 did not have a cleaning component and did not meet the cold temperature requirements. According to Army test and evaluation documentation, the Army noted that MILITEC-1 would need to be reformulated before it could meet the military specifications for a small arms lubricant.
well, i dont have any technical data like 120mm provided, but i do use it on my m4 at work.
its pretty dusty where im at, but i keep my m4 decently wet with militec and i recently went to a range where i poured 800rnds through my rifle - the lube stayed put and did its job. i dont use the clp my armorer gives me b/c it seems like it runs dry a lot faster than the militec does.
i guess it doesnt have a cleaner in it but i clean with it all the time and have no issues.
i havent used it in extreme cold either.

We had some issued to us in Iraq 2003. It worked very well as a lubricant for the M4s. Later, the big Army came down and said it was a no-no and to stick with CLP.
I would still use it for lube.
We got a bunch of it in 03’ as well, at the time whoever ordered the CLP only ordered 55 gal drums so we used the militec little bottles. Once the militec was gone we refilled them with clp from the drums. Nowadays the only lubes I use are Slip2000 EWL for rifles and TW25b for handguns or anything else calling for a grease (Im on my last tube, switching to Slip2000 EWG afterwards.)
I’ve used it for a while on ARs and Pistols, no issues at all. Since finding out it doesn’t inhibit rust, I mix 1/3 Militec-1, with 2/3 Royal Purple 20w-40 synthetic oil.
We were issued quite a bit of it years ago and it’s all I used on my M14, M4, and M249 overseas with no problems at all. We all swore by it, but not long ago we were told not to use it as it’s no longer authorized. I still plan on using it as I have a bit stored up and can’t justify buying EWL when I’ve got a bunch for free.

Militec is good stuff I’ve used it since 1987 and still do from time to time even though the shop I work at doesn’t carry it. Not my loss, I by it on my own. It beats Militec in every way especially in hot suppressed guns, I guess my per perspective is a bit different since I shot over 13k rounds suppressed.

doesn’t inhibit rust <– with ‘‘wrong’’ mix of things plus it will rust up steel and kill aluminum ! it based on a chlorine mixture which is it’s load bearing base ,it is snake oil that bites - it has killed many engines etc !!

I have used it in Iraq and at home and it works fine as a lubricant especially on the M4. I prefer WeaponShield and am using that now.
I used “the old stuff” everyday when I was on the Marksmanship Team in the military. We fired anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand rounds daily through our M-16’s and I never had a single issue. They changed to CLP before I was discharged in 1981 if I remember correctly. I may be mistaken as my wife is active duty and I occasionally work the range so it may have been introduced sometime later and I picked it up then. I still have several containers of both. I’ll use it until depleted. It works so why change.

I applied it to my M4 BCG per the instructions, fired about 100 rds at the range and didn’t have time to clean it that day. The next day I started to clean the carbine but I couldn’t pull back the bolt. It was firmly stuck and I had to use a mallet to force it open. Upon inspection, the inside of the carrier was totally dry and coated with surface rust as was the bolt. It worked great as a lubricant but definitely not as a rust inhibitor. It went straight to the trash bin and I went back to using CLP which has never failed me since it was first introduced in 1980.
