It’s been a couple years since the Gen M3 mags came out, been a pretty quiet topic.
Has anyone switched from the RevM/GenM2 mags to Gen M3?
Anyone prefer the Gen M2 over the Gen M3? Any real advantages to the M3 over the RevM?

Nope. I purchased about a hundred or so when I was overseas and stashed many of them away. I slowly augmented with other magazine and purchased newer ones, but I am not throwing them out or selling them off. Once they fail I will replace them with something else.
Going to echo IG, I have both, use both, and others. I have Gen 1, 2, and 3 pmags, though mostly use 2nd and 3rd gen, because I have only a couple of the gen 1s. Also have a bunch of USGI mags, and want to pick up some more Lancer mags. If I am buying pmags currently, I generally like the 3rd gen ones, I will admit, though that is mostly a preference in feel, but if 2nd gen are cheaper I won’t hesitate to buy them.
Reminds me that there are sales this weekend and I need more mags.
I haven’t switched per se. Have some gen 1,2,3 all work fine. I tend to buy some extra of what ever is cheapest and I feel is the best deal at the time.

I use both the gen 2 and gen 3 pmags in 30 rd. I did switch to all gen 3’s in the 20 rounders because I was having feeding problems with the gen 2 in the 20 rd mags, thus causing jams. I only use the 20 rounders for shooting prone.
All my current 30 rounders are Gen 2 using the non-windowed and windowed versions. Since, I have had no problems with Gen 2 I do not feel it necessary to spend more for Gen 3. I use the 20 round Gen 3, which is the only version left in production anyway due to the FTF problems already stated.
I’m all gen 3 now. Got a local place that sells them for $11 each for gen3 30 rounders. Can’t beat it.
As others have alluded to, I see no reason to get rid of quality magazines (Gen I or II), and I have better things to do with my time and money than to make an active effort to sell / trade older mags just to replace them with M3s. My Gen Is have moved to the range / training bag to get used and abused, along with some Gen IIs. Next time I go to war, I’ll probably carry M3s, but I would be totally confident using Gen IIs, and they will remain an active part of my HD stash. I buy whatever happens to be a good deal at the time (Gen II or III), although I’m mostly buying M3s now. Many of those will be stored for later use when the early gen mags wear out.

I like having colored furniture and painted weapons .
I’m to lazy to break out the rattle can every time I
open a new mag . I understand why they wanted
to get away from colored mags in their gen 3s
but Gen 2s worked fine for me .
I bought some Gen 3s just to try but most will probably
never leave the bag .
“Sand” gen 3s interest me but I’m already stocked
and have to much else on my list as is .
The gen 3’s don’t work in all receivers. That’s my only hang up and why I prefer gen 2’s. Of course the mags can be modified to fit but, I’ll continue to rock the gen 2 (MOE).
Personally speaking I like 'em both Gen II and Gen III’s but really like the Gen 3-40’s the best just because they hold more ammo. Uh-Duh! I bet they sell more Gen II’s than Gen III’s! Anyway, you know I really don’t think wanting to ‘replace’ or “get rid of” some of or all of your current mags is a “waste of time or money” unless your just throwing them into the trash can at the range after your done shooting for the day…
So say the new Gen? mags work or even look better to me that comes along that I want but don’t actually have the fund$ for I’ll ‘trade up’ or sell some older P-mags to help fund my new crave. To get more money I’ll leave all my back up P-Mags in the factory wrappers, we’re talking about having more P-Mags still in the factory wrappers than not wrapped… Hell, I’m not to proud to say that it’s probably for the ‘poorer people’ (me) who have to do it like that from time to time just to get what they want or need… I know I’ve done it many, many times trading and or selling off firearms and related because of my “incurable addiction to high dollar weaponry”*. I know that I can’t always just go buy a whole crap load of new P-Mags or every time a new generation of something ‘AR’ comes out.
*The Doctors over at the Mayo Clinic said there is no know cure for “Weapons (want) Disease”! :lol:
I recently bought a gen3 to try in my rifles to see if id have any fit issues. Id read that they seat easier on a closed bolt when loaded and in my rifles it certainly does. Much easier in my case at least. I have no plans to offload my gen1s & 2s but I think I will be buying gen3s from here on out. My only gripe which is minor for most i suppose is that the gen3 caps dont snap on to the bottom like the gen2s did. I thought that was slick and pretty handy.
I have some GenI PMAGS and a respectable amount of GenII mags. So long as they are still functional, I have no intention of dumping them. But I also have a few GenIII mags. I like them enough over the older versions that any future purchases are GenIII mags.
Between Gen 1 or 2 and Gen 3, I’d go with Gen 3 hands down for the over insertion tab on the back of the mag. After the last class I went to my Gen 1&2’s became range mags, and at this point I’m going to be running USGI mags with MP followers for duty use. Gen 3’s would be my choice if running Magpul mags.
I bought a few gen 3 30 rounders to try out, but personally I don’t like them as much as the gen 2/MOE 30 rounders. At this point I’m well stocked with gen 2, so I’ll stay with those mostly for price & consistency.
I got rid of most of mine - PMAGS don’t fit in all my weapons and I need everything cross compatible. Went back to USGI and got some new Lancers which look cool and do fit.
Can you expand on this? I am most curious because I have several types of lowers as well and PMAG’s work in every one.
I might have one or two Gen-1 kicking around but for the most part I have a bunch of Gen-2 30 rounders with the window and a bunch of Gen-3 40 rounders. They all work fine. (Touch wood.

perhaps he is referring to the compatibility issues of earlier gen PMAGS not playing well in the SCAR 16s & MR556 lowers?
