On Saturday I picked up a Smith & Wesson AR in .22 LR. Sunday we went out in the desert and my 9 year old boy and his best friend put more than a brick of 500 rounds through it. They had ZERO malfunctions. The gun is light and the kids think it is great. I have not shot it from a bench on paper to see what it can do, so no comment yet on accuracy. Riding back home from the shoot I asked my boy what he thought of the S&W 22 and he said, “It is awesome.”
Being made almost completely from plastic, the gun is light, which kids seem to take to. The buttstock collapses all the way, giving it a short LOP. Controls are essentially the same as an AR-15. My only complaint is that spare magazines were backordered. We got the one with the flash hider.
My son and I went 300 rounds before cleaning and it ran 100%. I zeroed everything in right away and I blew off a 1 inch target dot off of a paper plate at 25 yards with about 5 rounds. This little gun shoots very nice! I tried a buddy’s Colt/Umarex and it is a POS to put it nicely. For the extra $100 you save on buying the M&P you can shoot for a year on the extra ammo!
It’s all plastic, huh? What’s the actual weight? I think I would put some weights on mine if I get one to use for training; I would want it as close to “real” weight as possible.
Its a great 22 rifle and i havnt heard of any problems since they went to work and fixed the problems reported. Great price too. Perfect rifle for a kid or adult. Might be picking one up after firing my buddies
