Looking to reload some brass. Shooting an SBR 10.5 inch barrel with and without a suppressor. Would like to find out if there is a recipe out there that burns most if not all the powder to reduce blast baffle corrosion in my suppressor. Have you guys tested or experimented with short barrels and custom loads? I understand that a faster burning powder would “solve” the problem but than I’m worried about over pressure in the chamber and don’t want to end up with shrapnel as a new look. Can you get back to me and let me know what you think, thanks.
Jon
P.S. not looking to get subsonic, would like regular ammo velocity
There is no decent load that’ll burn up the powder in that short of a barrel. I would NEVER put my cans on a barrel that short.
W748 is marketed as a low temp burning powder and it flashes pretty low compared to H335 or XM193 in my 11.5" barrels. But I don’t know that those results would translate to less baffle errosion.
That’s interesting, I email YHM ( i have the phantom SS QD) and they told me to shoot the shit out of my suppressor but not to go lower than a 10.5 inch barrel and if and when the erosion gets to the point where it degrades performance that I should send it back and they will give me a new one for free so shooting it on a short barrel isn’t really the issue but would like to see if there is a custom load out there that people are using just to slow or stop the erosion so i don’t get so much unburnt powder hitting the baffle.
Any one been experimenting? The YHM warranty is pretty stellar so i guess there really is no point to this tread but was just more on the just wondering side of things.
