Handgun Ammunition Registration Database

Found this little gem here: ABC News

[i]Before the midnight deadline, Gov. Schwarzenegger acted on 685 bills that were on his desk. He signed 456 and vetoed 229.

One of the bills that he signed was Assembly Bill 962.
It requires handgun ammunition to be kept behind the counter where customers cannot access it without assistance. It also requires gun shop owners to thumbprint people who buy handgun ammunition, as well as record their identification and provide that information to police.

Among other regulations, AB 962 would:

• Ban all mail-order and Internet sales of handgun ammunition.

• Prohibit the retail sale, the offer for sale or the display of handgun ammunition in a manner that allows ammunition to be accessible to a purchaser without assistance of a vendor or employee.

• Require that the delivery or transfer of ownership of handgun ammunition occur in a face-to-face transaction, with the deliverer or transferor being provided bona fide evidence of identity of the purchaser or other transferee.

That evidence of identity, which must be legibly recorded at the time of delivery, includes:

• The right thumbprint of the purchaser or transferee.

• The date of the sale or other transaction.

• The purchaser’s or transferee’s driver’s license or other identification number and the state in which it was issued.

• The brand, type and amount of ammunition sold or otherwise transferred.

• The purchaser’s or transferee’s signature.

• The name of the salesperson who processed the sale or other transaction.

• The purchaser’s or transferee’s full residential address and telephone number.

• The purchaser’s or transferee’s date of birth.

Darn, it passed…

Well, that’s more business driven out of the state. Nothing precludes my buying it in bulk while out of state.

This screws us shooters in AZ up. Now people will be buying up massive amounts of our ammo to take back to that shithole state. :frowning:

I almost wouldn’t be surprised if certain neighboring states start ID’ing for ammo like they were doing for a long time with regular capacity magazines.

Knowing California they will start using the “fruit and vegetable” checkpoints for weapons and ammo checkpoints.

I would have packed a long time ago…I look at how the state votes by the red and blue counties and am just amazed how the big cities have taken over??

that is amazing . all the ammo manufacturers should do a ronnie barratt and not do business with any govt agencies in california .

Frog in a hotplate, folks.

I thought this was bogus at first, then I remembered which state we’re dealing with here.

Secession needs to be allowed, so the PRK can go ahead and become a full-bore, communist dictatorship.

Coming soon to the Golden State: Asswipe Permits.

IIRC the ID and sales recording was being done in the 80’s. The only thing this bill is changing is purchasing on-line ect and maybe the thumb print. It’s been 27 years since I left.

At least the micro imprinting the case has died or didn’t pass yet. That is about as dumb as it comes.

I don’t see where it bans bringing in ammo yourself from another state? If so how does that jive with interstate commerce and the feds.

How does it handle components? Might be a boon for reloaders.

Can’t wait to see the crime rate go down

WOW! That is amazing. I hope it’s a complete failure because I’m sure there are several other states chomping at the bit to create similar laws.

That would something wouldn’t it?

I know that’s what I’d be doing. Making road trips to AZ or NV to buy in bulk.

Yep. My folks are in Phoenix. I’ll just get my mail orders dropped shipped there and pick them up or have my dad drive it out when we visit each other.

It’s going to be a PITA for most, but I will have to decline to participate in this new program.

Seems fair… We buy your lottery tickets, you buy our ammunition

Wow - that absolutely sucks. How much more rediculous can it get - wait - Obama did get the nobel peace prize since they couldn’t give him one for econimics.

I think few stores in my area would ask for ID unless the purchaser was clearly the unsavory type.

Glad I dont live in there, hope the rest of the country dosent go commie.

And to think I almost moved to soCal about 9yrs ago. Thank the lords I didn’t cause I would be beating a path the hell off that sinking ship with all the other civil rights loving rats.

This very well could be the final straw that makes me move…I cant afford to buy ammo locally, its about two times the price already, cant imagine what it will be like in the near future…I love the beach but I am sick and tired of every other aspect of California right now. Time to move back to the land of affordable housing, SBR’s, and freedom.

My point being that I went on several top secret missions to Nevada from behind enemy lines to get Glock mags and I was asked for ID at almost every store I went to in Las Vegas. I am pretty sure that I am not unsavory.

I heard through the grapevine that even though this only impacts handgun ammo Cabelas has put out some notice that there will be no sales of ammo to California even though the law isn’t in effect until February.

well, I tell you if I could, I would move right damn now. To think I voted for that sonofabitch! first the .50 BMG and now this
well now I’m seriously thinking I’ll be getting out and moving when this term is up:rolleyes:
freakin amazing
