Hand tight muzzle devices for testing?

Hi all,

I have a few different muzzle devices that I want to test out on the same upper but the internet came up with nothing so here’s my question:

Can I hand tight all the muzzle devices with the same un-crushed crush washer without further tightening it? This is for testing purposes only and would not be more than 50-100 rounds per muzzle device.

I want to test a BCM comp, Battlecomp and an SF brake on the same day but I’m not sure if it’s economical to waste a few crush washers on the same day.

Thoughts? Would reusing shim sets be a better alternative? Suggestions on other better alternatives would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Why not just reuse the same crush washer, then use a new one for permanent installation. I would definitely torque your comps down with the proper torque and timing with each individual test run however.

I agree with this.

Thank you for the suggestions! I was under the impression that I cannot reuse crush washers, but I guess this is acceptable for non-permanent applications?

i use a jam nut when comparing muzzle devices: http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/JP_Jam_Nut_1_2X28_750_p/jp-jn.12.750.htm
i’ve found that muzzle devices from different manufacturers will time differently on the same crush washer. another option is to use a shim kit, but i’ve found the jam nut to be the quickest and easiest for testing purposes. you just need two wrenches to snug it up. use gloves when swapping out hot muzzle devices
For normal installation, i use a crush washer or shim kit.

You are going to shoot 150-300 rounds and are worried about $9 for few crush washers??? The problem I see with reusing them the is possibility of having to cut it off when your done testing.

As someone who has had to cut a crush washer off of a buddy’s rifle before, I can assure you it’s a task you don’t want to have to do. Spend the couple bucks on extra crush washers.

Shims are the best way to go.
I agreed to the crush washer mostly as a method to ensure that you are actually torquing the muzzle device and not just going hand tight.

I have not used a jam nut for muzzle devices.
