I’ve been getting into more rifle reloading and need to start priming by hand to get the feel of the pocket. What works for you and what should I stay away from.
Loading 308 and 556, possibly 260 Remington in the future.

Another member here turned me on the RCBS universal hand primer. Works great & is head & shoulders better than the Lee Ergo Prime that I was using.

+1 on the RCBS hand primer. I’ve used them for years. Never had an issue.
I have been using the RCBS hand primer to prime brass running the gamut from .223 to 7.62x54R and it is one of the best reloading investments I have made.
The Sinclare is superb for pocket/primer feel, but it’s a complete ass ache if you want to switch calibers. I keep mine set up for .223
I have the RCBS Universal Hand Priming Tool that is set up for small primer and RCBS Hand Priming Tool (with shell holder) set up for 308. Both works for me.
But hand priming can be tiring if priming for more than 100 brass.
For priming 100 or more, I use the discontinued press mounted Lee Auto Prime 2.
+1 on the RCBS,no problems so far with mine works like a champ.
FYI,Does small and large primers with just the change of an insert,both come with it.
I too use the RCBS Universal, it works great.
RCBS since they discontinued the old Lee made of mild pot metal (that usually breaks after around 15 years and a few thousand rounds).
I have used the Lee Hand Prime Tool for years in every configuration they have made it in and swear by it. I used my buddies older style RCBS tool and hated it compared to my Lee. The link above looks similar but a little different than my buddies, maybe that one works better. My lees always worked fine and considering I have been reloading since 1980 or so I have gone through 3 Lee tools,1st one because I never lubed the pivot points and they wore out,other one still worked but I had to tape the cover on because all the tabs had broke off,LOL I have had my current one for 3 or 4 years,still working fine. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/413473/lee-auto-prime-xr-hand-priming-tool?cm_vc=ProductFinding
Lol, you definitely got your moneys worth outa that lee hand primer.
I never thought of lubing one good idea ill start doing it.
Rcbs sounds like a good choice, too bad amazon is 1-3 months for delivery, grafs O/S, midway O/S, Sinclair O/S.
Anyone have a line on one in stock?

I’m sorry, should have been more specific on my end. I was referring to the non universal with interchangeable shell plates.

I’d seriously opt for the universal if you’re loading multiple calibers. I was skeptical about the “universal” aspect at first but it works wonderfully & you don’t have to swap shell plates. You’ll just have to convert between large & small primers.

Yea, makes a big difference, even the new style I put a dab of lube on the pivot points. I just like the feel of it, works great for me.
If you want the old style one I will give it to you. I hate it compared to the universal. All the parts for it still virtually new. I switched to the univeral and will never go back. Send me a pm if your interested, I dont want anything in return. No strings attached.
Man, i have got to get one of those. I hate changing out shell plates all the time. Iam going to go check midway right now. Iam always scared of anything universal, but with so many good reviews here iam going to try and find one.
Forgetting the mfg, but you can get a Lee autoprime with the pot metal parts replaces with stainless & brass.
That’s my favorite of all the options, though I loaded thousands over a couple of decades with the plain Lee. And would probably still be using it if I had lubed the ball on the end of the ram like I was supposed to.
