H&K 30 Round Magazine - Maintenance

ALCON, tried a search, but my search-fu must be weak. Doing an inventory of my AR mags last night and came across about 30 of the original H&K steel mags that haven’t seen much use in a while. I had stockpiled a bunch of these mags since my organization was using them at the time, but we eventually ditched them due to feeding issues. H&K at the time announced that a second gen version of the mag had been developed to address the feeding issues, but by then we had already moved on. Although I haven’t experienced any issues with my personal mags, I spent enough time clearing malfunctions after high round courses with my organization that I eventually just pushed them in the back of the storage unit.

Now that I have them out, I’m wondering if there are any steps that can be taken to improve the reliability of the mags, short of sending them back to H&K. I recall taking these mags apart to be a PITA. Thought about ditching them all together, but recall paying a pretty penny for these back in circa 2004.

I recall reading at TOS that someone had installed someSAW Extreme Duty Red Springs into their HK mags to replace their worn out springs. Here is the link at TOS
