Big -1 for Gutshot John. Bad transaction. I recently bought a set of Glock XS Big Dot night sights that he had advertised as:
XS Tritium Big Dot Sight set (front/rear) for Glock 17 - Used, came on pistol I bought so I don’t know date of manufacture. $50 (obo will trade for a standard Glock sight).
He didn’t mention that the rear sight was completely dead and the front sight was obviously not fresh. Why someone would try to be selling a dead night sight for half of the new price I don’t understand, maybe he thought “hey, half of works, half price”.
I also had a set of standard Glock sights, which he was looking for, so we agreed that I would pay $30 and send him the factory sights in exchange for the XS night sights.
I sent him the $30 via Paypal, not having noticed that he wanted an extra 3% for Paypal. As soon as he reminded me to pay the extra 3% (90 cents), in not so polite a way, I immediately sent him the $0.90 cents. He then refunded both of my payments and instructed me to make one payment for the total amount. Later on he accused me of purposely leaving out the $0.90 in an effort to “play fast and loose” and avoid the charge, hoping he wouldn’t notice (yes, according to him I put this much forethought into $0.90).
After having paid the $30, I asked if he would mind sending the night sights first so that I could swap them straight over and not have a gun down. He refused to do so. I informed him that I had perfect feedback on other websites, but would go ahead and send my sights first. I believe he ended up sending his at about the same time, we both received each other’s sights within a couple of days.
When I received his sights, I found the rear sight to be completely dead. Weird, since this wasn’t mentioned in the auction. Also extremely annoying, since I have no use for dead night sights and had already gone to quite some length, sending three Paypal payments, uninstalling the old sights, a trip to the post office, and going back and forth with emails. The next day, before I had had a chance to email ole John asking what the deal was, he sends me an email criticizing my packaging skills and claiming the factory sights I sent him had been damaged by the post office. I had taken the factory sights (they can be bought for $5 on Ebay), wrapped them in two ziploc bags, put them in an envelope and taped the envelope. Also, at the post office, the woman at the counter had me pay to send it as a “large envelope” so that it wouldn’t have any troubles fitting through the small envelope slots, which apparently are what ended up damaging the envelope anyway. I felt this a sufficient amount of packaging for two small pieces of plastice worth a total of $5.
So when I received his email, I informed him that I wasn’t satisfied with the sights I had received either, but would be more than willing to buy him a new set of factory sights if he paid to have the rear sight re-illuminated on the dead night sight. He didn’t like that much, and demanded that I either pay him $20 for new regular sights, or send back the night sights for a refund. Him being rude already on three occassaions (his handling of the Paypal situation, which certainly could have been more polite, his refusal to send me his sights first with no initial explanation as to why, and his notification that I “hadn’t bothered to package the sights well enough” and that I actually expected them to be damaged), I decided I didn’t want to go through this ordeal in reverse just to get back a $5 set of factory sights and my money back. I figure that I’d be better off trying to get the rear sight re-illuminated if I’m able to do so for less than the cost of a brand new set of sights. Either way, I wasn’t willing to deal with this guy further, and because of that he posted in my for feedback review for 2 days calling me a “thief” and “dishonest” because the post office damaged the sights I sent him. He now claims that not only was me forgetting the $0.90 cent paypal fee completely intentional and dishonest, but also that I purposely sabotaged the envelope containing the factory Glock sights (for what purpose I do not know) and that I’m showing my dishonesty by not wanting to go through the whole transaction in reverse with him for a refund. I’ve had quite enough of this guy and his dead night sight sale, and would urge others to be careful about what they buy from him as he obviously leaves important facts out of the description and isn’t quite on the same page as everyone else if he thinks people are purposely sabotaging envelopes containing $5 items so that the post office damages them in some kind of grand scheme of thievery.
I urge caution in dealing with this seller. Selling dead night sights without mentioning that they’re dead is awfully dishonest in my book. While I’m new to this site, I have 100% feedback on both Ebay and Gunbroker with hundreds of ratings and will show them to anyone who enquires.
