Gurkha Kukri

Anyone else think they are great knives?

The Gurkha Guards in Bahrain carried those…if drawn they would have to taste blood before going back into the sheath

Very bad ass blades

When I’m working I usually carry a Cold Steel version. It is perfect and would be my go-to knife above all others even above my custom knives. I do need to have someone make me a Kydex Sheath for it.

I bought one in 1987 when I was stationed in Germany. It was difficult getting a good knife for a decent price. I found a local shop downtown where I had the guy sharpen it and profile the blade. When he was done it was scary ass sharp. I used to strap it my ruck as an oh shit knife.

“Oh, shit” I need a knife, or “Oh, shit” look at that guys knife?

Both.

Or Oh Shit ZOMBIES!!! I think the Kukri’s are epic in Resident Evil 3.

Ayo Gurkhali.

I was an Army brat and spent much time moving around the former British Empire. Back in 1969 - 1973 I lived in Singapore, about a Km from a Gurkha Base. Gurkha Officers and SNCO’s were allowed to send their kids to school with the British Military kids and I got to know a Gurkha Majors son who travelled on my school bus.

As a result of this frienship I used to get invites to the events at the Gurkha base. If it was a really important event there would be the ritual killing of a goat. This task was always allocated to the newest, normally the youngest, member of the Battalion. To carry out his task successfully and with honour he had to behead the goat with one almighty swipe of his Kukhri. After that the goat was skinned, gutted, put on a spit and slow roasted for around 4 - 5 hours.

Any British Army Officer who wants to serve with the Gurkhas has to undergo a selection process which includes time at Brecon, which is not a picnic, and relatively advanced Gurkha language skills.

If anyone wants a genuine Gurkha blade I can recomend this place. Everything is genuine Gurkha made by hand kit. I have no financial or commercial link to the company.

Popular legend that’s fun to BS westerners with but not really true. The kukri is more commonly used as a multi-use utility knife for chopping rather than a weapon.

Kept one in my hunting kit…
used to use it to take the heads off of game after skinning…
one strong swing and headless…

left it stickin’ out of a backpack in Reno when the truck had a flat…it was stolen at the tire repair shop…

heartless and motherless tire repair people…

I have one in my teaching kit at the department…
seized item…

and very very old…
much collectors appeal…

am going to try to get it into the next set of auction items going out…seized guns and collectors kukri…

Haha oh well.
