Gunsmith Recommendation Needed: revolver barrel chop

I have a 6.5” Ruger Single Six .22/.22WMR that I’d like to have cut down to 4.5”. Does anyone have a recommendation for a trustworthy, top-notch gunsmith to perform this task? Alternatively, I guess I could do a barrel swap, but I’m not sure if such barrels are available. Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

There is more to than just cutting the barrel, there’s the shroud, ejector rod, etc. Ruger makes a 4 5/8" version, why not just buy or trade for one of those?

By my estimation, two inches can be removed without worrying about the shroud/ejector rod. I’ve been shopping for the 4 5/8” version for a while…out of stock everywhere, and GB is commanding stupid-high prices. As for trading, this revolver holds a certain sentimental value, so I’m not willing to let go of it.

Not sure if you ever got anywhere with this. Look at TK Customs, Pinnacle Firearms, and Mojo Custom Guns. Not sure how much work Dave Olhasso is doing these days. But he is great with Rugers.

Clark customs

The above recommendations are good. I would also add Frank Glenn in Phoenix or Karl Sokol in Vermont. I have revolvers from all three (adding Clark Custom guns as listed by S197) that they bobbed and tuned, and they are superb.

Clements Custom Guns cut this Bearcat to 3" and set B/C gap in 2006:

This pre-dated the factory 3" guns, so he cut the ejector rod and housing. It has a very smooth action, but the paperwork does not reflect Dave tuning it. I bought it as is.

P.S. Single Six is a 5.5"

Another vote for Karl Sokol

Thanks for all the responses. Haven’t done anything yet, but will soon get in touch with several of these recommendations. Thanks again!
