Guns you love more than you should

I hear ya. The grip angle is awkward as well. My FIL has a GP100 and it’s rough to shoot with full mag loads. After a box of 50 my wrist is feeling it.

I’m always on the lookout for another Security Six in near new condition. I’d love a few more to pass down to my children so they can pass down to their children.

We’ve got one of these in the family. It’s “like new” except we’ve put a couple hundred rounds through it. Has worked perfectly, even with hydrashoks, gold dots, and hst’s.

Trigger pull is a little heavy, gun is heavy for carry, but otherwise it shoots fine! It really does feel nice in the hand! They obviously spent some effort getting that right.

It can be left “condition 2” because it has s firing pin safety. ( confirmed with examination)

I had a Starvel Firestar .40. It was the only .40 I’ve ever owned or shot that I actually liked. Traded it straight across for a PPK/S, which I never gelled with.

I don’t really love any of my guns anymore than I should but I probably love my suppressors more than I should. Man those things are just the best, I don’t even want to shoot guns unless I have a can for them anymore. Probably a good thing for my wallet it’s such a pain to get more or my safe would be full of them.

Tie between my three Krinkov’s and my two HK MP5’s. I like really compact firearms for some reason.

Some of these examples are actually really nice guns.

I had originally meant more along the lines of stuff without great floorings, collectibility, or reputations,
Like the Star BKM that was your first SA pistol and you still love it, or that off brand gun, or gun you love like your 1993 BM Car-15 that is supposed to suck but you like.

But these are all interesting answers none the less.

I guess for me it would be my Swiss model 1871 Vetterli… made by SIG and it predates SIG USA, so you know its good lol
Conversion to centerfire was easy, brass is tedious to make and Im still tinkering with the loads but Its alot of fun and most people get a kick out of it. Watching the lifter huck the brass out the top of the action puts a big smile on my face. 12+1 capacity and in 1871 we were issuing single shot trap doors. Brass is made from 8mm lebel, bullets are .44cal .430" with a light smokeless powder . At this point its avg 4-5" groups with lots more potential when I get serious about getting the load dialed in. Way more fun than all the work should be

sorry for the partial pic, its a long sucker Id have to be 20ft away to get it all in.

My HK P30L. The trigger sucks, had to get the reset fixed, it’s bigger than it should be by a ton, the stock capacity is laughable compared to other handguns, it recoils harder than necessary.

The grip is brilliant, it looks badass, and I love it way more than I should.

I love these as much as ARs that cost 4-5 times as much and that just has to be wrong.

Cheap Rossi lever ‘92 .38/.357 I bought new with action job from a cowboy action smith. Smoooth trigger and a lever you can operate with one finger. Mild recoil with magnums and ridiculously soft with 38s.

Cheap Winchester 62A .22 pump from a local seller via Gunbroker who thought listing one shadowy photo was sufficient. Good pics would have brought double my solo bid. Love it mostly for the memories it evokes circa 1960 at the carnival.

And finally, also cheap H&R Model 999 top-break .22 Webley clone. It looks great, is accurate and delights everyone at the range when you pop out nine cases at once. Yes, it’s fragile and common, so I mention that to onlookers to downplay the pitter-patter I still feel just fondling it.

I have a BM Carbon 15 I took in on trade for hauling a backhoe. That stupid little rifle is actually a hoot to carry and shoot.

As nuts as this will sound. The Glock G19…

At this moment I have one as a bedside gun, and then six others with various finishes and modifications. I just love the damned things and constantly have to “talk myself out of buying another” when I have a thought about maybe getting a new pistol.

I would agree with some of the other posts here, I’m totally smitten with my MP5, but I don’t think I love it more than I should. That thing was damned expensive and I better love it!

Enfield SMLEs and variants. Particularly the No. 5. I finally got out of them due to the cost and general unavailability of .303 British. If I ever come across a good condition Ishapore dressed up like a No. 5, I may buy it, though.

As a kid I started out with a Ruger Standard Auto .22 pistol, bought used for $25. Being young and dumb I sold it to buy another gun I wanted more. Thereafter for years I’d try to replace it with another one but none really spoke to me. Then about 20 years ago a used and abused beater 4 3/4” popped up in the old Shotgun News:, “very pitted, $59”. What the heck.

It was pretty ugly, all right. But it was all there and the bore was okay. It went bang all the time. So I draw filed most of the pits out, had a gunsmith bead blast the exterior and throw it in the bluing tank, and replaced all the springs. Worked on the hammer and sear and got a nice pull out of it.

The thing is a joy to shoot; it goes everywhere with me. I think I’ve had more pure fun with it than any other gun I’ve owned. The only thing close is a S&W Model 18 which is likewise a keeper.

I have a Beretta 84 380 that I’ve had for 30 some yrs. Even with the 13 rnd magazine, by today’s standards it’s ridiculously oversized for the 380 cartridge and isn’t really a great round anyway. It’s a gun that doesn’t make a lot of sense but for some reason I still really like it. You can carry it cocked and locked or hammer down, double action, but for da mode you have to lower the hammer manually. I don’t carry it and only shoot it one or two times a year but I’d never get rid of it.

My 1899 Martini Enfield 303 falling block. One shot at a time. It’s just a fun rifle to shoot

Heretic! LOL

I had a pre-BM Carbon 15 upper that was sold separate on a special run for a wholesaler in TX. I put it on an alloy lower with collapsible stock and JARD trigger. I used to run it at local carbine matches and tear things up. it was so stupid light it was fast and easy to move with. Yeah the forend was as flimsy as a paper towel tube, but it was fun.

To the OP, I have an original H&R break open single shot 16ga with a low 4 digit serial number. I used it for years as a kid to hunt rabbits. The drop at the heel is such that it’s naturally pointed at the ground just about the range that a jumped cottontail would be by the time I got it shouldered. The hammer tension is so heavy that you have to earn getting it cocked. I used to hunt with the joint of my thumb over the hammer and my finger inside the trigger guard. There was no way it was ever going to get cocked by accident.

It was so fast to shoot that my other family members hunting with me using pumps and autos, HATED that gun! I’d have a lot of rabbits rolled before they could ever get their guns off safety. LOL

It was years later that I learned it only had a 2 1/2" chamber and I’d been hunting with 2 3/4 shells ever since the old paper hull supply was depleted. I had the chamber reamed to 2 3/4 and the hinge pin welded up because it had been shot loose. Spent 3X what it was worth to put it back into firing condition and it still gets shot from time to time. I’m not very sentimental when it comes to guns, but that one will be with me when I die and get passed down.

I had one just like that as a kid that my uncle gave me. Interestingly, it was in .22 rimfire either as a trainer, or someone had converted it. I use to carry it around the neighborhood, and in the woods. It would get shot in the basement sometimes using .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle my cousin would give me a few at a time. This all occurred in Springfield, Delco. Can you imagine a kid carrying a real rifle around the neighborhood today? Nobody cared.

It was HEAVY as HELL, but I humped it everywhere.

Delco Pa? Rifle came from Locks on Rowland Ave Philly. They had 22 trainers as well. I think 218 bee as well as the original 450/577

My Colt Double Eagle. Big heavy, a grip that is damn near that of a double stack, a decocker tgat is more of an after thought, a trigger mech that is just cludged on there and the slide is legit a standard 1911 cut with space for a safety that ain’t there. But I enjoy it.

This is kind of a boring one but my 9mm Shield. I think they are ugly (not relevant to function but an observation), ergos are weird for my hand and the little filler piece for the 8 round mag is a junky design and it moves around. That said, in that class of guns, it’s the one I shoot most accurately.
