Gunblast 300 BLK article:
That was a good read, I enjoy reading their articles.
In his video he says 1 in 7 twist.
When in fact it has a 1 in 8 twist, I believe.
He says a 7.62x39 is rimmed? ![]()
I saw that too… He did mention the shape requiring a curved magazine so he was close to correct.
The last picture on the bottom right shows a 1/7 on the barrel - I thought AAC only made 1/8 barrels…
Otherwise a nice little write-up.
I haven’t read anything about the 300 Blk specific scope from leupold, and a quick search on their site didn’t show anything. I assume he is referencing a bdc model of some type. Any details?
It’s Jeff Quinn. I like reading his articles, but you have to consider he’s an old style gunwriter. Take 'em with a big grain of salt and don’t expect technical accuracy or objectivity. His target audience is not the M4C crowd, anyway.
That said, I like 300 BLK a whole bunch. It’s encouraging to see the other parts of the gun industry talking about it.
Actually in the very bottom right-hand picture, the barrel is marked as a 1x7 twist. Maybe Mr. Quinn’s test sample is a pre-production upper or something.

We are starting to ship 1/7-5R and are in a transition period where there will be some of both at dealers.
I took a fresh look at things and picked 1/7 to increase compatibility for more types of ammo. For example - it is better able to shoot Sierra 240s, or other long projectiles, and there was no difference in accuracy for full power ammo. It works out very much like 1/7 vs 1/8 for 5.56mm. I realize some people will prefer one over the other, but this is what we are doing. We will see if the industry follows us or stays with 1/8.
