Gun Rights Advocates Target California Detective Following Facebook Posts

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,585807,00.html

I’m sure he isn’t the only LEO in CA (or anywhere else in America) that believes citizens shouldn’t own guns but the really arrogant thing is posting his beliefs in this manner on Facebook. Some people are elitists but talk of shooting at/near citizens engaged in a lawful act goes too far. Just goes to show that ignorance exists everywhere.

As a LEO in Virginia I am disgusted by the comments as reported on Fox news.com. This detective is a disgrace to his badge and a traitor to his oath of office. I hope they terminate him, lets see how he feels about his second amendment rights then as a civilian. Let`s remember that most law enforcement is pro gun,you will find a few exceptions but by in large most law enforcement support the 2nd amendment and CCW.

Enemy Combatant = Military Tribunal

A pre-emptive reminder to keep the discussion centered on the specific idiots in the story, and to avoid yet another generalized LE bash fest.

How long would his career lasted if he had talked about shooting blacks or latinos?

I bet the soon to be unemployed jackass would take a distinctly different view on citizens rights to defend themselves after he can’t carry anymore.

You guys should read his post history on CalGuns.net Definitely comes off as dumb and young yet he’s a detective?

This has been in the news all this past week. I didn’t start a thread for the fact I thought it would go down hill in a heartbeat. What I don’t understand is that he has the audacity to criticize and threaten to shoot people who simply want to protect themselves and their families and for exercising their 2nd Amendment rights the same way he does in his line of work.

On top of that he’s obviously not the brightest bulb on the tree considering he’s making comments like that on a public website. He’s a piece of shit that needs to be fired so fast his head spins. Here’s a screenshot of the Facebook incident:

Smart people who do things like enforce laws and can have things they say turn up in court don’t use their real name on Facebook.

Just sayin!

It will be interesting to see how his employment unfold…makes you wonder what he feels about other laws he is supposed to uphold and enforce. What a friggin ding-dong.

The calgun.net thread is up to 81 pages and going strong. Talking about shooting people and being rewarded with a vacation for it is unconscionable. I believe his statements and the attitude he portrays are what prompts the us VS them sentiment that so many people have.

This idiot is probably already promoted. His city rewards this kind of stupidity. If badass cops like him were to go into the bad areas of town and do his job they wouldn’t be bad areas. Just my two cents as a LEO.

Saw this on GT…I’ll repost here what I posted there…

Tuason didn't return a phone message seeking comment Monday. But East Palo Alto police Capt. Carl Estelle said the department's professional standards division is looking into the Facebook remarks to see if they violate any rules or policies.

"We have to be careful because they're on his own personal private Web page," Estelle said. "We have to be careful not to violate his First Amendment rights."

Well Captain, he is speaking about what he thinks should be done on the job representing your department in a situation that has presented itself in the not-too-distant past (and that is likely to happen again). You should be interested. I’m not a cop, but if I posted on my Facebook page that I was going to steal documents from my company and provide them to a competitor or foreign entity you can bet that my superiors would take action, even though it is my “personal private Web page”.

And let’s not even consider the possibility that this situation does happen again, and Detective Tuason ends up shooting someone who was open carrying. I bet that’ll be a fun lawsuit your department and city has on it’s hands when these comments on Facebook come to light.

And of course there is the issue of your officers admitting publicly that they intend to harass civilians who are breaking no law just because they can, and making light of rights guaranteed by the US Constitution and California law.

But yeah, no big deal.

I think this would fall under making “terroristic threats” if the remarks were made by Joe Citizen. Weren’t these types of postings on the internet determined to be one of the first key indicators for the Columbine incident and several others? What makes him any different than any other citizen with the potential of going batshit crazy and off’ing innocent people, oh wait those are the people he’s sworn to protect.

This moron swore an oath to preserve and protect the Constitution. Something that he obviously “selectively” supports. He’s a piece of SH*$ and should be fired. That oath to the US Constitution trumps and overrides all other laws and policies - state, local, etc. If you don’t like it then get the hell out of my country you dirtbag.

Is he gonna shoot protestors too while they engage in their fundamental right to speak, etc? Probably.

Fire him.

If I joked on my FaceBook page about shooting up my office, and my company read it, I am 100% certain I’d lose my job.

This guy should find a new career.

Very well said.

If his comments had been directed at blacks, women, gays, or any group other than gun owners, he’s be out of a job by now, 1st Amendment rights not withstanding.

What really worries me are the ones who feel the same, but are smart enough to keep their mouths shut (at least on a public forum).

Fire his ass.

Fire him.

Hmmmm…interesting. Let me preface my remark by saying I don’t agree with anything this guy said, and that as a LEO I am offended by him.
But it IS interesting to me that many people want to suppress his first amendment rights to free speech mostly because they don’t agree with him. I thought this was something the lefties do, but apparently I’m mistaken. The first amendment exists precisely so that people who do not agree with you can be heard. Common sense will hopefully prevail, although I am well aware of the scarcity of that particular item recently.
If that officer worked for me, he would be in my office getting an ass chewing big time, but unless there were some concrete PHYSICAL actions taken on his behalf to indicate he was actually going to do what he said he would do, I would not fire him. There would be consequences, but they would be internal to the dept, and specifically aimed at professional development. (He sounds like an immature kid).
If, on the other hand, he went and DID what he was talking about, there would be an internal investigation that would probably result in his dismissal, and might even result in charges against him.

“Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech…”

The 1A is irrelevant. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences resultant from things that you say. Someone who holds the opinions that this Detective does and publicly states them is not fit to be a sworn law enforcement officer. He can be heard, but the 1A does not protect anyone’s right to have a government-issued badge. There are plenty of things that you can say that will cost you your job. Walking into your CO’s office and telling him to f*** off may be one. Joking about depriving private citizens of their right to life should be another.
