Guilty Nostalgia

What is guilty nostalgia? It’s when you remember something you really loved in your past that most people either laugh at you for, or wrinkle their nose at you like someone is holding a turd up to their face.

Lately I’ve been dating a girl who I describe as basically a hippie. That’s a good thing in my book.

She’s reminded me of some things I used to really love but have forgotten about.

I’m talking Billy Jack movies…

Grand Funk Railroad albums…

Back issues of ‘Mother Earth News’ before it became a tree-hugger rag…

Old Westerns with Clint Eastwood…(not that anyone laughs at those)…

Wide-brimmed hats with feathers in them like Jimi Hendrix used to wear…

Okay–

what guilty nostalgic pleasures turn you on?

When I was overseas I would get nostalgic for some pretty cheesy music. The Beachboys, Foreigner, Meatloaf, Bonnie Turner. It was pretty bad.

ETA: Nobody raised in my dad’s house laughed at Clint Eastwood westerns

Antique martial arts weaponry like I had back in the late 70s and early 80s or remember the older guys using.

This pair of sai is probably late 50s early 60s.

Bonnie Tyler?

Yeah, her :o I know somebody named Bonnie Turner, so I must have gotten my wires crossed.

Those are just like the one’s that Rafael carries.

Cruising the 1/4 mile “drive-in strip” in my hotrods and chasing high school girls… circa 1970…

Kinda where my mind wandered. I had a HS buddy with an old Willys jeep. We used to cruise around on summer nights, drinkin’ $1.49 six-packs of Rainer beer, smokin’ Camel straights and $15/lid Mexican ditch weed, and blastin’ the Ozark Mountain Daredevils on the 8-track.

No incredible stories. No astounding tales of glory. No arrests/no convictions. Just a whole lot of fun.

I’d hit it. Now.
