Walked into one of my favorite gun stores today and I saw the new GSG STG44 in .22 cal.
This thing looks fantastic and feels incedible. It is heavy. Very heavy. I like that. Since the only real STG44 I have seen have been behind glass I can’t say it is an exact copy but it appears to be damn close. Real wood grips and buttstock. Adjustable rear sight, very similar to an RPK/AK (windage adjustable). Front sight post comes to a very fine point and is not a square post like an AR or AK. The dust cover locks down and springs open when the bolt is retracted. The bolt can be locked back by retracting it and rotating it a few degrees into a notch.
The metal is not or does not appear to be pot metal like on the other “CLONE” .22s I have handled. It appears to be “real” metal like some sort of aluminium alloy or steel.
The finish is realy great. A sort of deep black bluing.
I’ve never been a big fan of the .22 clones, but this one has my attention. The stg-44 has always intrigued me and this is a way i could maybe afford one. I wonder how the functioning is?
Mp40 coming soon. Two versions planned. One is a fixted stock with the 16" barrel length to meet ATF regulations. The other is a pistol version with the stock pinned in the close position to keep ATF happy. Probably a SBR in my future. The Mp40 is less expensive than the STG44.
If the STG is an indication of the quality of the MP40 it will be a winner. For around $450 I will buy one. $600 is way to expensive for a plinker .22 IMHO even though it is very cool.
My Local guy sold one he got in for about $550. That is reasonable for all these new .22 clones, like HK, ATI, etc… However, they are selling on GB at about $650 and UP +shipping…ouch. I saw one ‘buy now’ go for $659 plus shipping.
I’ll wait for my local FFL to get another one in and buy it for $550
