Groom Lake Facility (Area 51)

hey Grant, ever spend time under the Dole Plantation? It is a google-able.

I think it is pretty obvious for 25+ years why Groom Lake has been off-limits - a testing ground for new unnanounced aircraft, Red Flag exercises using actual COMBLOC planes, etc.

Depends on when you were there and what for. 1983, seeing a bunch of F117s flying, is cool. Going up a little further to NELLIS Range and seeing half-dozen (real) Mig-23s get engaged by F15s is cool. Watching test flights of of Predator etc, before people even know they exist is cool. etc.

Here in the central valley of northern California there are several scattered comm facilities out in the middle of nowhere with very strange looking aerials and antenna farms. Many of the bases here have been decomissioned, but these are still operational. they must be important if they keep them staffed and operational.

Negative on the Dole Plantation.

About a year ago, the Missus and I researched and plotted the known defense and security installations within four hours of our home, as part of our last-ditch bug-out plan.

We know full well that our awareness is somewhere around 10% – and the map still looks like the backstop at the local firing range.

Yeah, nothing covert about it, you could drive right up and they even had visitor buses come in from DC so prisoners’ baby-mommas could come see them. Before I left NOVA there were suburbs built up all the way around the prison.

I must have missed something…

Edited. Oh, it had a Nike site. Umm, those really weren’t kept all that secret, at least not to the same degree as Greenbriar or Groom Lake.

Ain’t that the truth.

Having been “associated” with Groom Lake and “Area 51” for over two decades, I can personally vouch on the advanced flight testing being done there.

The following photo has just recently been declassified, as far as I am aware. If not, and the men in black suits start asking around, I was never here…

lol…priceless :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s an interesting picture. I’d be interested to hear what the story is on it.

Looks like a fairly decent photoshop to me. You can tell its fake, but its pretty decent I must say. However, I have no doubt that could be an actual hanger from the Groom Lake facility.

You can find pictures that were taken on base at Groom Lake. There just arent that many, and theres no way to tell for sure if it was really taken at Groom Lake or not.

Here a few that look like they most likely are. A few were taken there for sure…
