Grey A2 upper receiver source?

I have an M16A1 in ATF jail right now, but I should have it within a couple of months. Being anal retentive (and wanting to preserve the original upper half), I’d like to have an upper receiver that has a finish that matches the lower. Does anyone know of a source for A2 upper receivers with the grey M16A1 type finish?

I bought a NOS A2 FN upper years ago it was the color your talking about. They’re pretty expensive now. Have you looked at Nodak or the new line Brownells is selling? Gunbroker might be a good place to look.

I saw the Nodak’s, but they’re A1’s. I’d probably rather have a grey A4 upper receiver now that I think of it. Actually, who am I kidding. I’m going to build a couple of uppers for this rifle, so both A2 and A4 uppers in grey would be great.

Those pruty $400 dry gray uppers are going to darken up once you oil them.

You only need to oil the inside.

I thought there might be a premium for the grey, but those prices are way beyond what I’d imagined. Does anyone refinish to match the Colt M16A1 grey finish? Seems like that might be more cost effective.

I have a new (20 something year old) Eagle Arms A2 upper receiver you can have cheap. It is gray, I can send you some pics to see if the color is correct for you. Send me a PM if you’re interested. Hope this helps with your project…

I didn’t realize that there were two different versions of the gray. Hopefully the uppers that I receive will match closely enough. If not, I may see what US Anodizing can do.

Unfortunately, the uppers that I received were not even close to being a match with my Colt A1 lower. It’s kind of hard to explain, but they were more metallic looking than just plain gray. Fortunately, the seller agreed to let me exchange them for something else.
