As I discussed in the shotgun forum, because I was having some feeding problems after leaving it fully loaded for several months, I ordered a 3 pack of Wolff magazine springs and installed one in my Mossberg 590. After a couple of weeks I was having the same issue with the new spring. I took out the spring and noticed that it was quite compressed after just a few weeks. I contacted Wolff and Sean tried to recreate the problem with springs from the same lot but couldn’t find a problem. It could very well be the gun that is causing the problem. No matter what caused it, even though I had only used one of the three I ordered, Sean sent me a new three pack of springs.
More than just the replacement, he was honestly interested in my issue and instead of just saying “hey here’s a new spring”, he actively tried to help me fix it.
It was one of the best customer service experiences I’ve ever had and they have earned a customer for life.
I am not the least bit surprised that they provided great CS. I am a bit suprised that you needed it. Never personally had a problem with a Wolff spring short of me just running it into the ground.
Leaving a shotgun loaded up shouldn’t be an issue at all, you are making me think I better go check all my springs. Thank you for inducing spring paranoia in me!
Ive been using Wolff Springs for decades. In many different firearms.
Recently here on the forum, we’ve talked about issues with shotgun mag springs. Mossy’s are known for not having good springs.
My Shockwave was no exception. I did NOT have problems…but didnt want any, either. So awhile back, I ordered Wolff Xtra Power springs.
I always kept my HD guns loaded to full capacity…but out of an abundance of caution, Ive since started downloading by one. That takes a lot of pressure off & Im hoping will contribute to longterm reliability. Its working so far is all I can say.
As Ive said here before…far too many people neglect to clean the mag tubes & springs in their shottys. Ive seen some so filthy I dont know how then gun was running.
So, to me, in MY mind…a clean mag tube…a good Wolff spring…download by one and regular function checks should make everything ok.
Wolff makes good stuff…I’ve visited many a producer & purchased millions & millions of springs over the years in my time in mfg / maquila industry & ‘quality produced spring steel’ doesn’t loose her property from being long termed compressed. It’s being used (in motion) that slowly wears out their elasticity memory.
There are a bunch of crap springs being produced around the globe & even the best have one slip through the qc / ppm fail.
Heard only good things about Wolff, but really Mossberg should be capable of making springs that last the life of the firearm.
I have a half dozen early 80s vintage Benellis all on their original springs and no problems. I’ve mag dumped one of my M1S90s so many times I can’t even describe it. Suffice to say I saw Tom Knapp shoot and he showed me the way. I was never as good as Mr. Knapp but I could quickly empty my weapon with about an 80% hit rate on fixed targets.
Hans Vang was local to me in AZ, had him do up my 590. His opinion of Mossberg springs was pretty low. He replaced the 590 springs, I replaced them in my 500s. All Wolff.
I run Wolff in ARs, AKs, 1911s, you name it. I know there are others that make great springs but one stop shopping is hard to beat and Wolff has a wide variety. Heck I just got some springs for my FILs old P38.
