Grease vs. Oil

Dear All,

I am new to the site and love that i am learning so much already. I am a police officer in texas and want to care for my weapons as best as possible and enjoy learning about others results.

So here is the question… I have read and heard several debats on using Grease vs. Oil on your M4/AR parts ??? For those of you who used these weapons on a daily basis… Please fill me in on your imput… I have a RRA Elite Car A4

Thanks

HFD

The only place I’d use grease is on the Bolt Carrier Cam Pin. Though I don’t.

All I use is BreakFree.

I’ve never had any problems after thousands of rounds.

Light grease on the carrier rails and moderate grease on the cam pin for me. Mobil 1 on the bolt forward of the rings but not on the bolt face.

wouldn’t grease cause a build up of carbon deposits causing the life and wear ant tear to be greatly depriciated??

I think i am liking the motor oil discussion previously even though i have never tried it on my guns.

We stock BF CLP and Tetra for lube at my dept. For the most part, I stick with a CLP of some type for lubrication. I’ve used synthetic motor oil as well and it works okay. None of the tech manuals call for grease, but yes, I have used that as well. When it comes down to it, have some type of lube properly applied and you’re GTG.

Not at all. I’ve been running it for years. Carbon only builds up behind the rings.

Been using grease in addition to oil for 25 years on duty AR15’s, M16’s, and M4’s without problems…
