Grease for FCG mating surfaces

Hello all, first post here.

I am hoping to assemble a complete lower for the first time today, providing USPS arrives here with my buffer tube setup.

I’ve spent a lot of time browsing the net looking for help but couldn’t find anything clear cut. My question is regarding lubing the FCG (hammer & sear mating surfaces) during the assembly.

My question is what type of grease should I be using here? I’ve decided that I’m going to be running Slip 2000 EWL on my upper once my AR is all together.

These are all the lubes I currently have:
-BreakFree CLP
-Wilson Combat Ultima-Lube Universal
-Tetra Gun Grease (I like this grease but I’m reading a lot about how it may discolor anodizing or dry up and become crusty)
-Slip 2000 EWL

I’m thinking about going to an auto store and just buying some red Mobil 1 wheel bearing grease. Would this be the best thing to use? I also have some old “Green Grease” laying around which seems like it could be similar but i’m not sure.

I’m sort of going all out with nice parts for my lower so I just wanted to make sure I did this right.

I use Slip 2000 EWL for oil and Lubriplate #105 engine assembly lube for grease.

Any of the lubes you already have will work fine.

I’d just dump Slip in everything and hit the sear/disco with the Tetra.

I used to use grease until Froglube came out. Takes the place of oil and grease and stays better.

There are a lot of good products on the market and at one point my cleaning station looked like a display of lubricants at the local gun shop. I recently tried foaming bore cleaner and decided to go back to my old cleaning regimen. After I used up all of the different cleaners, greases and lubricants I settled on a minimal number of items.

  1. For 30+ years I have been using Pennzoil wheel bearing grease on lubrication points of both rifles and handguns where oil will fling off. I still use it, but might try synthetic grease after the tub is empty.

  2. I use Mobil 1 motor oil on any surface that needs oiled.

  3. I use Hoppe’s # 9 for cleaning.

  4. On a rare occasion I will use copper solvent and I am not particular about whether it’s made by Hoppe’s, Birchwood Casey or Kal Guard.

  5. If I buy a neglected firearm, I use Kroil penetrating oil to clean off years of baked on gunk and grease.

Pick up a syringe or two for greasing hard to reach places. You will find it as handy as a pocket on a shirt.

I was wondering how green stuff worked on the fcg components.

From what you have on hand I would use the Tetra grease on the FCG surfaces, but as others have stated any lube is better than none.

I’ve used the Tetra grease for years and never heard or experienced it attacking anodizing.

I have a couple of friends who use Tetra grease on their SWAT entry guns and swear by it. I have used it on semi-automatic FCG surfaces and have no complaints. It smells better than wheel bearing grease. :smiley:

Brandon, do a search on Mobil aircraft grease. This is what Geissele sends with their trigger groups. G&R Tactical sells this grease in small packs as well.
