Got some groups today with the EMC...

Scope is a Short-Dot 1-4X so its not as easy to shoot groups as with a little bit more magnification, and I don’t really have a good rest. Also need to be better about my breathing since some of my groups tend to string vertically.

SP = SuperPerformance * I was pleased this ammo shot pretty good for me today because I had a couple popped primers about a month ago with the 178 HPBT SP load. According to Jason Hornady all 308 SP loads started getting crimped in Sep so that batch of 178’s I had was pre-crimping. The accuracy was pretty poor with that loading, too.

For the money the new Federal M1A OTM loads are accurate, and about half the cost of most match ammo. Ill definately be buying a lot more of it! The Nosler Accubond was disappointing but at least I got it on sale.

Here you go…

I would say the Fed is your best bet for the price also. You cant beat that for half the price. Good work!

Given your magnification and the lack of a good rest, I’d say those are pretty darned nice groups. I, too, was surprised how well the Fed M1A loads grouped in my LR308. I shot a 200 yrd group with the Fed that approached 1 MOA. The Hornady 168 grn Amax match is a hair more accurate in my gun, but the slight improvement in group size isn’t worth nearly twice the cost of the Fed M1A fodder.

I’ve the best groups with my EMC with 168gr FGMM. I’ve also shot M118LR, Hornady 175gr BTHP, PRVI 175gr Match, and a couple hundred rounds of plinking ammo for drills…

10 shot group with the cold bore shot at the very top with FGMM

5 shot group

Heres some more from today…

Oh yeah Im at ~1450 rounds without a single cleaning so far…not even cleaned out of the box. Groups were shot consequtively with no cool down, 1.1-4X Short-Dot set on 4x, low/mild wind, and from a Caldwell rest with bunny rear.

Again the Fed/AE 168 M1A OTM is the most accurate load Ive shot, and at the price Im buying as much of it as I can. Recently got a 10 box case for ~140 + shipping. Can’t beat it, really. It shoots about a 1/3rd better for me than even Federal Gold Medal Match.

Not sure what was up with the Lapua ammo. The group on the left was first. I was like I paid 40 bucks a fucking box for this shit, and its crap. Then I shot the group on the right. Not sure why there was a difference but maybe because its moly or something. First moly ammo Ive shot through it. The M1A groups were shot after the FGMM/Lapua/BH target so the moly didn’t have any affect on accuracy.

I was toying with a good accurate 308 load for competition and wound up going with the same load Barry Dueck uses (Barry shoots the LMT 308). I tried the 110 grain TAP and it shot a 4inch group at 500 yards and a 3 inch group at 400 yards. N6 18" Noveske barrel, SJC Titan comp. This 100 grain TAP load is the load I use for the long range stages in 3 gun at the moment. Might be something to check out. If your still checking out ammo options.

This one? http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=236872

Or the red box? http://www.hornadyle.com/products/more_detail7481.html?id=72&sID=79&pID=1

I’ll have to pick up some of that Fed M1A stuff - for you at that price it will be really hard to beat that accuracy. Where’s the best place to get it?

And for a “battle rifle” guy you spend a lot of time punching small groups on paper! It would be interesting to see you shoot longer distances with that ammo too - sometimes ammo seems to stabilize later and tighten up as the distance grows.

Spooky

I was shooting out to 750 yesterday, too…:stuck_out_tongue:

Not from yesterday but heres a couple vids:

On that last one the trigger wouldn’t reset a couple times. I blew it out with compressed air and it works fine again.

Heres some links for the Fed/AE 168 OTM:

Palmetto (on sale right now): http://www.palmettostatearmory.com/1599.php

A2G (a little pricier): http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/product_info.php/cPath/24_100_284/products_id/4010

Midway and Cabelas also have it…

Thanks for the info as well. I’m starting to shoot my JP LRP-07 308 at 3 gun matches now. I have a 1:11.25" twist so I’m not sure if my rifle will be as accurate with 110 grain bullets.

What type of velocity are you getting with with the 110gr. TAP from your 18" barrel?

Also to the OP. How you you like your EMC? I’m seriously considering getting one of these.

Good videos for sure… Maybe even more telling about how little recoil the EMC has was the video of your wife (it pops up on the side when you pull up the other ones) - very little recoil moving her around. My wife can’t stand recoil and then can’t stand it when I tell her how much the toys cost!

I would love to see the 750 and 500 yard groups - not that it matters since you were hitting the gong at 500…

Thanks for the links!

Spooky

That was her first time shooting anything above a 223/556.

I really don’t shoot for groups past 100. I guess I could but its a lot more fun shooting steel. When Im shooting gongs 90% of the time its with FMJ ball ammo as well.

That second video is entertaining. It’s not often you see folks treating there kac rifles like that.

Nice shooting there belmont.

Eh its still a just gun no matter who makes it…

And I said it hasnt been cleaned yet…

Militant83 Nice shooting there belmont.

Thanks!

That is impressive.

I would be curious to know how much, if any the sand cuts make in your BCG in reliability.

It seems like it would make a difference, but that is something that is probably difficult to measure.

That is a great range too. I need to invest in land and steel gongs!

Spooky

No idea but its working so far. I want to do that sand test again now that it has a Geissele trigger in it. The Geissele has less parts but when I took it apart before there were little pebbles that got stuck under the trigger. Not a failure of the KAC trigger but I also had a Hornady 178 BTHP SuperPerformance round blow a primer, and the primer got stuck under the trigger. Seems like a weak spot for things to happen if anything foreign gets inside the action.

Yeah I love it. Its been a great place to shoot especially since they got some of the rules ironed out. Plus their range master always wants my brass so I rarely have to clean that up. I haven’t been to any other ranges since BOTW opened.

This is an off the wall question but one that has been bugging me to ask for a while. Are the new bolt carriers with the cuts standard now with every new SR25 EMC?
