I played with how the light switch is mounted and this works best for me since I am using the off set T1 in most situations where a light is needed. I also love the magpul rail covers.

That’s a great looking rifle. Nice Work!![]()
By the way, just curious what is the weight of the rifle kitted-out like that with the two optics and the light? Does it balance well for you?

The TA33 looks really far to the rear to me.
How does that work with the 3 to 4 inch eye relief?
The position you have it in is about the same as where I put a TA31 with an inch and a half of eye-relief. My TA11s (with about the same eye-relief as the 33s) are almost fully forward on the upper.
Not a criticism, just something I wonder about every time I see a pic of your setup.
I had it further foward before but the way I mount the rifle the optic was too far foward unless I moved the stock down to the 3rd notch which made me feel cramped. I prefer to shoot fully extended without armor and on position4 with armor. So far I like it this way. I am not a nose to charging handle shooter. That may account for the difference.

I need to weigh it. But its a tad heavy with the two mags but with just a single mag its pretty light. The TA 33 weights 7 ounces the T1 aimpoint weights 4.5 ounces the mounts on both probably bring it up to 15 ounces total.

Nice work! Its a good feeling when you reach that point of completion. The only thing left to do now is start another build ![]()
Pat,
Does it balance well for you?
I am curious because I want to put together a stainless 14.5 Afghan in a similar fashion, except for it will only have one optic to start.
I really like the idea of the TA33 R8 (the longer eye relief and 3X) but haven’t had the chance to fire a rifle with one. I have only used the 4X32 TAO1NSN and one of the 6X on a competition rifle.
How is the TA33 working-out for you so far? What ranges do you typically use it at?
I was looking at using that scope at 100-200 yards, possibly 300 on occasion (steel plates, shooting varmints/ 4-legged).
Once I get my upper in I will have to take a look at one (TA33). I saw Grant has a pretty good price on the La Rue combo.
Thanks for your input/ thoughts,
SkiDevil
The TA 33 gets used from 100 yards to 25 mostly. Inside 25 I use the T1. This summer I will start shooting further out. I like the TA 33 quite a bit. Its a good balance of speed, accuracy and weight.

It’s always nice when you reach a point of nirvana with a carbine or other gear. Lets you get your head in what you’re doing instead of worrying about what you’re doing it with.
Have a question, and it’s something I’ve seen others doing too but figured I’d ask you. What’s with the tape-switch and the X300? You have a carbine here with a relatively long barrel and a magnified optic but a light with a pretty short throw. If you had the light at 12 o’clock I could maybe understand but you’ve got it mounted on the side and the switch at 12. Why wouldn’t you use a Scout in this location with it’s better throw for a carbine?
I’m also not sure I’d be willing to forgo irons (although I do have some guns without them) but I think the idea that the optics back up one another is interesting.
Just trying to save on weight. Most of the time when I need my light its during building searches and I have found the X300 with its 110 lumins more than ample for that and the occasional perimeter duty. A scout would throw more light but at the cost of more weight. Also this carbine has a 14.5 inch barrel with a perm mounted muzzle brake that brings it to 16 inches. That does not seem overly long to me. But then again I don’t own any SBR’s. I suppose it could be relative. The reason for the switch at 12 oclock is it works well for me with the rifle canted when I am using the T1.

Interesting. Not knowing what I don’t know, I would have expected you to find more use for the scout outdoors given your locale, which was also what I equated the 3x Trijicon with. Thanks for the reply.
FWIW I wasn’t equating light:barrel-length only but to the package as a whole. The carbine as a whole just seemed set up for mid-to-long range engagements moreso than indoor/close range, hence my question/suggestion re: the light.
If you don’t have a Scout, try getting your hands on one and you might be surprised that the lumens that both lights put out on paper do not equal the same thing in application. X300 is 3.8 oz. and the M600C is 5.26 but they have a new M300A at 4.5 oz. that you might find interesting.
I know that carbines for LE are constantly a set of trade-offs trying to make them do many things and fill many roles, and I would expect that’s even worse up where you are.
That’s a good thing, because if you were you would have the COG about a half inch embedded in your eye!
Like I said, if it works for you, rock on.
As you have no front sight, have you tried the light at 12 o’clock? It would give less splash back if you were rolling out around the left side of a barrier/wall. Pat Rogers had a very good article on white light placement in the August SWAT dealing with this.
Might negate the need for the tape switch at all as well.
And let you use your AFG pretty far out on the rail as well with your thumb properly positioned to activate the light.
Your set up is all wrong. The current accepted tactical doctrine says that the washing machine goes on the left and the dryer goes on the right. I’m a little surprised you didn’t know that. ![]()
When I am using the light it is at close to 12 o clock because I can’t the rifle slightly to use the T1 for close in shooting. I may have to do some more playing with my set up. Thanks guys.
Pat
Lookin good.
Hopefully I will see you running that noveske at a 3 gun down this side of the states.
Very nice looking rifle there! I’m a little bit of a noob, so I’m curious how the T1 setup works for you, do you just keep it zeroed to 25yrds and do you get good groups and all even with it canted a little, does that affect anything anyway?
I zeroed the T1 at 50 yards and the TA 33 is sighted in 2.5 inches high at 100 yards to compensate for the greater drop of 75 grain tap ammo. I have not had any real issues using the cant because the Larue mount keeps the sight fairly in line with the bore. You just cant the rifle to shoot the red dot so its on top.
