Well, I went ahead and did it…I bought my new LE 6920!
It started out like this:
I went shooting this morning, took my 11 year old son with me shooting for the first time.
He LOVED it!!! And I love the fact that he loved it! We really bonded today, and although we have an excellent relationship, we have now found a new activity which we can do TOGETHER. Iam more excited about that than anything else!!!
He shot with a Ruger 10-22, then with a Walther P22 handgun. He enjoyed the rifle much more though!
I then let him shoot with my Sabre Defence AR-15 Carbine, and although he said it had a bit more of a “kick”, he enjoyed shooting that rifle just as much!
After we left the range, we went by the gun show which was going on this weekend, and I found an LE6920 for sale, BNIB, for $1200 + tax.
SO, since I was feeling so GOOD, I went ahead and bought it! (after I got permission from the wife of course!!)
Now, the next time we go to the range, we can each have an AR to shoot!
I’ll try to post pics later of the rifles.
Bigtime congrats, on both the rifle AND the bonding. My girlfriend’s son is 10 and I can’t wait for his first range trip.
I have a .22 upper for the AR that I use for teaching women and kids. If your boy winds up finding that the 5.56 is a little too much for him on an extended range visit, you could plop a .22 upper on your Sabre while you shoot the Colt and he can feel like he’s shooting the same thing as dad.
Congrats again. I really am envious of your experience with your son.
Sounds like you had an awesome day. I’ve got one month until my first is born. So I’ve got a few years until he’ll be ready for the range. Enjoy the bounding time with your son and Colt. Both are fun
No I’m in Florida, Broward County. I went to the show in WPB though.
There’s another show at the War Memorial next weekend.
I’ll probably be going with my boy!
Rob, I had actually thought about doing that (putting a .22 upper on the Sabre). Just one question, (sorry for the ignorance) does anything have to be done to the lower receiver in order for the .22 upper to function properly?
By the way Rob, where do you shoot? We live in the same county! Are there any local shoots or carbine classes here? Let me know any info you may have!
My upper runs perfectly on a completely un-modified lower. Mine is a DPMS but if I were buying today I’d be contacting Spikes Tactical (and in fact may do so shortly anyway) for a custom .22 upper.
I shoot at Markham in both IDPA matches (4th Saturday), drills (1st Tuesday evening) and I run our carbine match (4th Tuesday evening). Check out www.tssa.net for more info.
