Personally witnessed a couple of Stags back in the 2007/2008 time frame that had rough chambers and would carbon weld casings in the chambers. Guns got sent back to Stag under warranty and one was sent back twice.
Tweak: Thanks MUCH. If I had that maybe 45 minutes earlier - no gun shop trip.
I was not completely comfortable, but after cooling the weapon, and waiting a bit, I figured the FP was already fwd a bit, and the hammer released, and the bolt was not locked fwd for firing, so I went - not knowing what to do myself at the time. (Been on plenty of ranges, but not personnaly seeing this). Although, I heard a buddy do this, with an oversized reload, but he too took it in to a smith.
Lets say its a very left on the chart gun - in which no one questions the barrels/chambers on these, and I’m not ready to do that. I almost feel like (after a little more inspection) leaving it dirty and firing ‘properly sized’ brass ammo.
Thanks.
Which chart? Every place has bad days.
Do you have a chamber brush?
That’s exactly the time frame I bought that upper.
There are other makers of cheap ammo. Brown Bear for instance.
Yes I have and use a chamber brush. I DID NOT use it since last time I fired about 40 -50 rounds of Wolf. I wanted to see it go past a cleaning. Although I did clean the barrel and BCG. Gun was well lubed.
Just took the upper off and checked it out. Nothing in chamber and a live roud seats fine - Wolf and brass. This was Wolf MC - fairly new. I guess it is possible that the round was a bit out of spec. Interesting to see a BCM have the same trouble, but of course mine was locked tight.
BTW - is banging the butt with catch engaged “the technique” on this?
My BCM has gone through at least 1500 rounds of Silver and Brown Bear with never an issue.
Nah, you press the catch if you have a brass over bolt situation. You want the carrier to slide away from the brass and latch on the bolt catch. It won’t half the time.
Normally, the added inertia of the impact is enough to break the carrier loose with a Failure to Lock or Failure to Extract. Pressing on the catch while doing so only adds to the drag on the carrier.
FWIW, the illustration is incorrect in that it says to pull the charging handle while driving in the stock since doing so would only continue to trap a brass over bolt problem.
As always, with collapsible stocks, collapse them first.
My father in laws Larue stealth upper did something similar with “Herters” steel cased ammo. Some crap ammo we bought at Cabelas and I won’t be back. It ran through my BCM middy just fine but I don’t want to try it any more.
at this point, the only Russian ammo I would use even for plinking or training is Silver Bear. I have had exactly NO issues with it, even on auto through a 10.5" LMT Mk18 upper.
For every person who has never had an issue with wolf there is a person who has. Upper doesn’t matter when it come to shi#y casings and shi#y powder. Spending the extra $.05 a shot goes a long way.
Do you mean Hornady steel (thought that would be about 7 cents more)? Or do you mean SB or BB? I talked to AIM before ordering this case. They said it was as good as SB or BB. They were dropping BB because it was too expensive for what it was.
