Got a bushmaster, what should i look for?

Traded into a magpul bushmaster. Not really my choice, but the trade was plus my way so if it doesn’t work out I’ll sell it and still be up. Someone will buy it.

Here’s what I know:
It’s new. As in never fired or the kid was the best cleaner I’ve seen in 42 year’s,he claimed its new.
Gas key is staked, not perfectly but its staked better than most.
Barrel is marked MP, its a 1/7
Keyhole forging upper and lower
No major wobble between the uppper/lower
Shitty fit of the Moe handguard. Like the Delta ring or something is out of spec.
Chamber is good, maybe slightly loose.
Trigger…ehh not bad, slight grit.
F front sight
Carbine buffer
Ran 300 rounds, no issues. All types of mags drop free.
Shot with irons out to 100yds, accuracy was there for my blind ass.
Enhanced carrier, no markings on bolt or carrier.

Eat it up…
What say you?

Someone to buy it from you. :thank_you2:

I have an old BM (10+ years) that I have upgraded with an SSA, a Vortex FH, LMT FA BCG, a Magpul handguard and and UBR but most will say sell it and get a better one like Colt/DD/BCM etc.

DELETED

What was deleted? I haven’t had coffee yet so don’t make me think:alcoholic:

Oh, your post…I’m very slow this morning.

I know right?!

A Bushmaster with a 1/7 twist rate? Really? I didn’t know such a thing even existed!

I’d be more concerned with the BCG. Honestly, just shoot the shit outta it until it’s time for something better or sell it now for one of the usual suspects (Colt, DD, BCM)…

BM AR’s are typically over gassed so I would add a SpringCo Blue Spring and an H2 buffer. Buy a spare BCG and drive on.

C4

Faack. There goes my credibility… Its 1/9.

Don’t sweat it, just make sure next time. All is forgiven.

When you say the chamber may be loose, what are you basing this on? And what type of ammo are you shooting with it?

When Grant says buy a spare BCG, he really meant buy a BCM or other tier 1 BCG, then use the BM BCG as a spare.

this works

Bushy’s look great out of the box, but as those discoveries like the twist rate and stuff add up, then when you first get the feeling that what you should look for is a buyer - don’t hesitate.

That said, if you’re really enjoying shooting the crap out of it, I’d follow Grant’s advice (run the heavier spring/buffer combo), and when the time comes for a handguard, the Centurion C4 line will solve any issues you have with the delta assembly being off (that’s the only part that requires alteration) and you’ll end up with a really functional, affordable handguard on there.

A replacement.:jester:

Just kidding. Now that you got it, run it till it drops and replace it.

thanks the pardon :dance3:

Using a Fulton armory headspace gauge. Of the 5 ARs I have , this one is good for headspace, but the tool is ever so slightly loose, but that’s not a scientific statement and it may not even be accurate. My point in saying that was the chamber isn’t tight or ridged.

What ammo? 193,855, PMC 223 but mostly my hand loads.

This is just the answers I wanted :suicide:

Take apart the FCG and grease the sears & pins. It will go a long way towards getting rid of the gritty feeling. Or better yet, use nickle based Never Seez. This stuff really makes triggers smooth!

I don’t know why you would be checking headspace but in any case it means nothing in this scenario. In addition you need determine what chamber you have first and ensure you have the right gage beforehand.

Yep. I’ve reloaded for 25 years and learned from my grandfather. FA makes a 5.56 gauge. Its a 5.56 chamber. But thanks for checking on that. I check the chamber and head space on every new gun.

If you have other AR’s that have proven reliable, and you don’t need this for serious work, just shoot the snot out of it. Let your friends shoot the snot out it. Let your friends drop it in the mud.

Who cares if all the cool kids are wearing short shorts… Doesn’t mean you have to cut the legs off this one.
