GOP talk of military action in Mexico sparks dire warnings

Rising GOP support for the U.S. taking unilateral military action in Mexico against drug cartels is increasingly rattling people on both sides of the border who worry talk of an attack is getting normalized.

Wednesday’s Republican presidential primary debate featured high-stakes policy disagreements on a range of issues from abortion to the environment — but found near-unanimous consensus on the idea of using American military force to fight drug smuggling and migration.

Jesus… how about we just call the entire war on some drugs what it is, a complete ****ing disastrous failure, legalize it all and move on.

Despite what the RINO neocons among the 8 Non Dons were saying on the stage Wednesday night (especially Asa “I’m the DEA man” Hutchinson), Mexico is NOT a “strong partner” on combatting drug-trafficking across our southern border. Even if they had been (by hook or by crook) in the past, that ship sailed when Obrador got elected.

My take is that the WOD is an abject failure. So instead of combatting the drugs, just freaking wipe out the cartels by any means possible to end their human trafficking evils, and the rest will fall in line. Seizing money and drugs makes for good photo ops and headlines, but it don’t do shit for stopping the ever worsening criminal enterprises to our south. :frowning:

Peter Ziehan was at some defense conference and he (IIRC) was telling them that they are going to be fighting an Afghan style conflict in the Mexico/Southwest border area with in a decade…

The results from decriminalizing MJ hasn’t been that impressive, as in, not really at a change here at all as far as I can tell. Things have gotten worse, but there are other forces in effect. Frankly, taking out Fentynal production would be a good start.

But all this is just a bandaid on trying to fix the problems we have in society and people. We have a culture and values problem, not a gun, drug and/or violence problem.

Fully support. After the videos of how comfortable they feel operating here, I’d happily support chopping off a lot of heads of those organizations.

I am not sure about the WOD being a failure and have to consider that stated goals and actual goals are 2 different things. The war on the 2A and other freedoms have always been a big part of it.

It would be a disaster.
We would have ROEs, they wouldn’t. We don’t have the will to fight a real full on war. The first time some shitty shanty got leveled by a bomb with a “civilian” inside, the media and country would lose their minds.

Does it need done, yes. Will it happen in a way that works, **** no.

Yes. .

Bigger problem, although the politically correct won’t touch it, is the unsecured southern border. We get a metric shit-ton (different than a standard shit-ton ;)) of Fentanyl and other narcotics with the potential for Mexico-type violence but just as bad we get unwanted Third World flotsam we “have” to support. Let the cartels eat it and let the beggars—and their damn crotch fruit we don’t want and didn’t ask for either—make a choice to leave or starve. Lock down the border and both problems will be solved. At one time I raised an eyebrow to this but now I have ZERO problems making the southern border basically a DMZ with concertina wire, mines, and roving armed drones.

Oh, and deport all the flotsam already here! Go back and fix your own shithole country, or do the proper thing and apply for LEGAL entrance to this country; don’t give a damn if it’s too expensive or takes too long (waaahhh :cray:), deal with it. I owe them nothing.

Quite a few years ago the Feds published a map showing dots where drug cartels were operating across the US. I thought to myself how could this be? How could the Feds know where they’re operating yet not stop their operation? My guess is that map has a lot more dots today.

I’ve always thought a slow ride on a Liberty ship to Tierra del Fuego should be the “Return to Sender” method of choice.

It will never happen…Cartel del Golfo goes back to prohibition & humans are just the new tequila / pot / meth.

Plata o Plomo has always been the rule for politicians, but didn’t get truly ugly till the Zeta’s style of narco’ing spread & brought in extortion from the local quicky mart to farmers to the trucking Ind, add in civilian kidnapping & of course all the gruesomeness to the people vs keeping biz personal. It ran me out of the maquilas.

I blame politicians from multiple countries every bit as much as the narco crossing the rio grande…this is an organized human / child smuggling operation that the msm ignores. The whole military chatter is nonsense & could be idled from 100mph back to 5mph in no time, but that’s not the goal.

No need to be cruel about it because the Libs will whine, so I’ll splurge for an MRE and bottle of water then you get your ass on a plane or ship (with your kids if you brought them) and you ALL go back. Country of origin won’t take you back? No problem, Mexico gets 'em!

Yeah, Mexico needs a bitch slap for allowing all the drugs and ILLEGALS to use their country as a launch-pad for this crap. They are the first in line for blame. Next in line for blame would be Lefty politicians and Chamber of Commerce types looking for cheap labor.

I’m old enough to remember the Reagan admin and Nancy and her “Just say no to drugs” campaign. I also remember all the reports on tv news about South America and the war on cocaine.

It’s all the same bullshit. It’s never going to end. Legalize all the drugs. It’ll get sorted out sooner or later. **** it!

Seriously ? Military action against the cartels/mexico?
The Mexican .gov/ LE/.mil are all part of the cartels. The mayor of town ‘x’ is the cousin of cartel leader ‘y’; the governor of state A is the brother in law of cartel leader B, the president is the cousin of cartel leader ‘z’ and on and on. More jingoistic nonsense being spewed by limp dick RINOS to ‘take action’. Spare me, and I’m sure no one in the US .gov is getting any bribes, payments, kickbacks from the cartels which is why its allowed to continue. I believe in the early 90’s, direct relatives of then president Salinas gotari were ‘convicted’ of drug trafficking; similar /sort of like the current xiden administration in criminal activity. What the solution is, I could not even fathom a guess, most likely there isn’t one and all one can do is address/ameliorate the symptoms but never curing the disease.

I think instead of actually doing it initially, I suggest we contact the cartel leaders (we damn sure know who they are, guaranteed) and tell them that if they don’t cease and desist that we will send a Hellfire or three up their asses, think “Clear and Present Danger”. Jeez, your family might be nearby too. Tell them we can track them and their families at all times, renege on the deal and look over your shoulder (or rather up in the sky) for the rest of your short life. I suspect they would at least think it over…if they said “F**K you gringo!” then it’s game-on.

Yep, instead of controlling our borders, let’s just let Mexican drug cartels turn the entire US into an opium den. You think shit is an out of control disastrous failure now? Go ahead and legalize it.

It will make you long for the days when choking on people’s second hand legal skunk weed in public places was the biggest annoyance about legalized drugs. Oh your family got killed by somebody on meth? Well it’s legal so he’s in treatment.

But we’re saying the same thing. **** the dismally failed WOD and go for securing the border instead. Until we actually secure the border, every dollar and life spent in the WOD is like pissing in the wind.

True words indeed !

And the fentanyl coming out of China?

Bet there are some Wagner guys looking for work…

Only part I disagree with is I’ve never raised an eyebrow to the concept of military intervention, it’s long overdue. (FWIW, Gov. DeSantis sent FHP Troopers to assist TDPS Troopers on the border.)

I’m all for DMZ’s on both borders as well as giving the USCG everything they need to protect the coasts. Beef up ICE too, they’re good people.
