I’m removing the EOTech and installing a 3-9x40 scope so I can use my 16" mid-length for coyote/predator hunting. I was originally going to get an ADM product, but their mounts are a 1/2 pound. Is there another excellent mount that doesn’t weigh so much and also provides for proper eye relief?
All of the better made mounts for your needs are gonna be similar in weight. Other options are: LaRue Tactical, Bobro, KAC. Im not sure what each of 'em weigh exactly, but they are all excellent mounts. My personal preference is the LaRue.
I dont know if a set of rings will work for your set-up, but a set of rings will weigh less that most any scope mount.
The extra few ounces in an optic’s mount is not really such a bad thing…your not exactly wanting a T-1 mount. Stick with the ADM mount…wonderful kit, wonderful support behind it.
Weight…
ADM Recon 8.4 oz
ADM Scout 7.1 oz
Bobro QR 6.8 oz
Larue LT104 7.1 oz
What is the pro/cons of the Recon mount (2 levers) vs the Scout mount (1 lever)?
The GG&G FLT is 5.5 ounces according to GG&G.
Ditto for LaRue.![]()
Last 6months I ran the Scout X after many yrs. of being curious about whether or not the extra latch on the Recon’s were needed and if so under what conditions. Ultimately I came to the conclusion that these QD mounts be it the ADM, Bobro, or Larue rely far more on the mount base’s total rail surface area coverage rather than say the two latches on the ADM recon’s or Larue mounts. The Scout’s and Bobro mounts work equally well with their one latch however you just dont have that insurance policy that most likely will never be needed anyway but you know…shtf. So one extremely secure latching mechanism combined with a sizable area of the top upper receiver rail’s area covered by a mount’s base and a mount should secure properly and given the securing latch is up to par, RTZ equally as well as a two latch mount.
I have now gone back to running the Recon X’s exclusively but I would not hesitate to run the scout x again I just find that the extra coin for the Recons is prob. a “might as well” cost and insurance policy.

Thanks!
I chose the Recon over the Scout for the security of a second QD lever. as the only moving part, (other than the ring screws, and there’s 5 per ring so I’m not worried about that) it’s got to be the weakest link, right?
I’ll take an extra oz. or two, located between the hands, for added security. just a couple rounds in the mag is a greater difference in weight and no one worries about that…
I would go with a laure, adm or bobro
