Another crappy city run by morons strike again. This could be an important case in the 2A/Gun Rights debate as the BS local law says one thing, few are going to be feeling his paying a legal price for saving lives without even using the gun!!!

Baltimore police arrest ‘good guy with the gun’ who stopped armed attacker

After Marine veteran Lloyd Muldrow stopped an attack by an armed assailant at a Baltimore bar, police officers thanked him — and then they arrested him.

Now the Good Samaritan credited with saving a man’s life faces up to a year in prison, charged with violating a city ordinance that forbids bringing handguns within 100 feet of a public building, even though he neutralized the attack without drawing his pistol.

Mr. Muldrow, a North Carolina security specialist, holds a concealed weapons permit, but it was issued in Virginia, not Maryland. Even so, he has no intention of accepting a plea deal when he appears at his Oct. 31 hearing in Baltimore Circuit Court.

“I’m not going to settle with probation or anything like that. I don’t think it’s fair,” he told The Washington Times. “I’ve carried overseas in different countries, and you’re telling me I can’t carry my weapon from one state to another? I’ve trained more than the average police officer, and I can’t carry from Virginia to Maryland? I have a real big problem with that.”

His attorney, Michael Stark of Maryland’s Stark Defense, said that the “good guy with the gun was placed under arrest for having a gun.”

“Lloyd Muldrow is an accomplished Marine, a self-defense instructor and a church-going mentor to young people,” Mr. Stark said in a statement. “Now, because of Maryland’s outdated, and possibly unconstitutional gun laws, he faces jail as if he were every bit as criminally-minded as [the assailant], rather than the selfless hero for his country and his friends that he proved himself to be.”

I bet the armed assailant he stopped is already out on the street. Probably charged with disturbing the peace, if that.

This guy seems like a good dude. But he was carrying in a place he wasn’t licensed too, and in a bar, no less. Neither of those were good decisions. I applaud him for doing the right thing and solving the problem, but he put himself in a bad position. The law in this case is stupid, and might not hold up if it gets to the right court, but he’s still going to have to deal with the legal system and it’s probably going to cost money and generally screw up his life.

There’s plenty of people on this forum that live by the “I carry everywhere I’m legally allowed to, and I don’t go places I’m not.” Obviously I don’t know how the quotes were actually meant in context, but based on the article it sort of sounds like this guy was of the mindset that because he’s trained he didn’t have to follow the law, which is not a great way to go through life.

The guy sounds solid. At least it’s not some Mongo with a gun like it usually is. I’m sure he’ll have not problems raising funds for his defense.

Maybe if he set a federal courthouse on fire and shouted obscenities at cops they would have let him go.

Its also possible that he knew full well what he was doing and the potential consequences and that just isn’t portrayed in the article.

Not overlooked. They should have used the discretion inherent in their position and warned him of the violation.

Protect and serve should mean just that.

Yeah, he seems to have an understanding of things and decided “to carry was more important than to comply” and “to render assistance was more important than possible consequences.”

That said, being in a bar does violate the three S rules. I will also say the people who stand up and challenge these laws often aren’t our “best case” example.

The CWP issued by my state is valid and recognized in states, a, b, c, x, y, z. IF I’m going to state D, E, or F, where it is not recognized, I’m using utmost discretion and will not get involved any situation where it does not effect/threaten my life or family directly.

Several years ago Tennessee made it legal to carry a gun in a bar. Many gun owners at the rifle club were against it, predicting drunken brawl shootings… blah blah blah. Of course the naysaying prophets of doom we’re wrong. We’re doing just fine.

Many years ago a convicted felon carrying a gun stopped an armed robbery at a convenience store somewhere in the Knoxville area. IIRC he was not charged with a crime. Hopefully the Marine is treated as fairly.

Unlikely considering where it happened. If anything, will be the opposite to set an example as they often attempt to do in other cities or states run by progressive loons, like NJ and CT. I tend to expect them to double down on the stupid if prior history and behavior is any indication of what to expect.

I say this as a Veteran and a Marine. What the hell does being either of these things have to do with anything? I really hate when the veteran status is brought up in any news story, good or bad. Vets can be great people and total shitbags just like the rest of society. Many times I read these articles and get the feeling the vet is looking for special status.

Besides that with all that “training” this guy had what are chances he did not know he should not be carrying in that state and especially in a bar?
