Hey guys im looking for a good accurate bolt gun… the only catch is that im left handed. Anybody have some suggestions for me? Im not sure which way to go, but ive seen lefty Remington 700s and a few Savages. Maybe im going the wrong way all together and should just get a good right handed bolt gun since there are so many more of those to choose from.
I havent shot more than a few bolt actions so im not sure if im worrying about getting a dedicated lefty too much, any lefties have any input? I was thinking .308 by the way since I have an ar id like something with more range.
I shoot lefty, and have used right handed bolt guns for years. Prone its a non issue. Sling supported it can be a challenge. That having been said, if I get another bolt gun made up it will be left handed. GAP Crusader action is what I would do, but…$.
As a lefty myself I’ve gone full circle on this issue. I started out shooting RH, then went to LH and finally realized why they make rifles with the bolt on the same side as your “strong” hand (besides the venting/safety issue, there’s also the issue that with a true LH rifle, you won’t have to “cant” the rifle or resort to other tricks when trying to shoot unsupported). On the other hand, if this is strictly a range or bench rifle that you will never shoot offhand, it’s a non-issue and maybe a RH rifle would be fine. Depends on how you will use it.
As for LH rifle choices, there are a few good production rifles out there. Two good starter “precision” rifles for a lefty:
I went to a few gun stores today and got to handle a lot of things. I really liked the Remington 700 so I think im gonna look for a used one. I cant wait to try some long range shooting, I just signed up for a new rifle and pistol club right out of town here where they have 1-600 yard ranges. I never knew how much good quality glass costs, but I handled a few nice scopes today as well and the quality was pretty apparent.
