before the flaming starts i’m looking for any source i can to get extra trigger time in and work on drills. i live in the city, have a decent sized backyard and only am able to make it to the range once every week or two. so if i can utilize an airsoft platform to get any benefit i will.
things it must have/be:
accurate weight
accurate trigger feel
accurate controls (mag release, bolt release, safety, charging handle etc)
functional bolt catch for last round.
pretty damn accurate to 15-20 yards
i know i wont be able to accurately work on any kind of malfuntion drills but beggars cant be choosers!
I’m attending the SouthNarc Armed Movement Inside Structures (AMIS)class in March. They specifically want us to bring a pair of airsoft pistols for the training.
I did look for a KSC G19, since my carry gun is a G19. But Glock has done a pretty good job of enforcing their patents, and even managed to scare the Chinese copyright violators.
Also, sending a couple of hundred bucks to a website in Hong Kong does not fill me with positive vibes. Not sure I’d ever see my stuff, much less in time for class.
I did a bunch of digging, and all I can find is reviews from 12 year olds saying “bestest airgun evah!” I’d like to get feedback from someone who has gone through puberty.
I put a penny on my flash hider and dry fire 10 minutes a day, sometimes ends up being longer if I go through all the firing positions or if I lose track of time.
Closest you’ll get is a KSC (or KWA clone) Glock, GBB pistol. The trigger feel is close, but the weight is off. Not really worth the effort to rectify either, but as far as manipulation (especially draw/presentation) there’s a lot of value to be had there.
If you’re really trying to part with some money, the Marui 1911’s (and M9’s to a lesser degree) are fairly close, but a bit light and requires slightly harder to source 134a (tetraflouroethane) to run the gas blowback, as opposed to the ‘green gas’ which is really propane.
WGC isn’t as easy to get ahold as they used to be, and now that TNT/Speedpost isn’t the primary option, I’d say eHobbyAsia is the easier route for getting that stuff. Their site is a nuissance to navigate, and everything ships from Hong Kong despite what their ebay site claims. Still preferred.
Actual dry fire, to include the penny or spent case on the front end is still going to be a bit more precise for accuracy based drills, the value of the airsoft really is the manipulations and presentation drills where the accuracy of the weight and feel isn’t as important as reinforcing the rough mechanics of it. Also helps that you can use the same holsters and mag carriers.
I’ve had good luck in terms of accuracy and durability with KWJ. We’ve used them quiet a bit for FoF training, and they’ve held up over the last two years of classes.
It is the remake of the glock pistol. KWA had to redesign it because of the copyright issue. But it fits glock holsters and has a rail for light and lasers.
Cost $129 in most major online stores in the US and has many positive reviews.
