Gold Dot for a G34?

Sorry about this post, its kind of a three part question…

I’m about to make an order for some Gold Dot ammo and was trying to decide between 124gr, 124gr +P, or 147gr for my Glock 34.

I was wondering if it would be fine to use standard pressure GD in my Glock because of the increased velocity of the 5.3" barrel?

If not, how much of a difference in recoil do you notice between standard pressure vs. +P?

Lastly, do you prefer 124gr or 147gr?

I have read some threads on it and would still like some fresh input if you guys are up for it.

The 124gr Gold Dot is excellent ammo. Shoot it with confidence, it isn’t going to hurt your 34.

Both rounds are listed in DocGKR’s sticky regarding duty ammo recommendations posted in the Terminal Ballistics sub-forum. Both rounds will perform well in your weapon.

My personal preference is the 124 +p Gold Dot, but I would not hesitate to use the 147.

Gold Dot ammo is always good to go. Never had any issues in the thousands of rounds I have shot. Most rounds were of the .40 cal variety in the Glock 35. As far as weight heavier is usually better although with bullet technology any of there bullet weights should serve you well.

Sorry for the wording of my post. I’m sure the ammo wont hurt my 34. I was actually wondering if the longer barrel would bring my MV up to +P levels.

For sure.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure any of the Gold Dots would serve me well. I just want to make the most logical and educated decision I can before I place a bulk order.

I use 127 +p+ in my G34, so I’d go with 124 +p.

I prefer the 147gr gold dot. But I’m a heavy for caliber guy.

any of the three will do fine. i choose the 124gr. +p as it is an issue round and i can get a decent amount of it. i shoot at least 10,000 rds. of it every year w/ no issues in the glocks.

Where are you finding bulk Gold Dot these days? The places I usually shop have not had the 147 grain lately.

I recently tried the Winchester Ranger-T 147 grain loads in my Glocks and they have worked great as well.

I shoot all 9mm weights in my G34, both standard pressure and +P, without ill effect. I don’t notice a great difference in recoil. I like Gold Dots for defensive loads, and would simply select my weight based on its inclusion in Doc’s list.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Keep 'em coming!

Thanks for starting this thread, Hayden. I’ve been pondering the purchase of some Gold Dots myself, and hadn’t come to any great conclusions yet…

I haven’t found a good source for Speer products, and wondered if you might mind sharing your source?

I hope this isn’t a dick move but I’d like to make my order before I give out my source.

I’ll let y’all know tonight.

We issue the 124gr +P at my job so I have a great deal of experience with that load. I like it a lot.

Not a big 9mm fan, but the 124g +p gold dot is the ticket in 9mm. My initial urge was to go with the heaviest bullet I could get, the 147gr, but after extensive research, I came back to the 124+p. I really like the 34 over the 17, but was surprised at chrono results. I only got 10-20fps difference between the two barrel lengths. Not the dramatic improvement I was expecting. Now in my G35 vs G22, most any round will yield 80fps and sometimes 100fps faster with the extra barrel length.

Same here. I use 124 +P Gold Dot in my carry guns no matter the barrel length. I’m using it in a PPS and my M&P9 Full size. I plan to use it in my SIG P229 Elite Dark as well.

I’ve never had an issue with them at all. Always performed very well and they are a little more snappy but plenty managable in 9mm.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you remember what ammo/bullet weight you did the 17 vs 34 chrono testing with?

Perhaps my google-foo is weak, but I cant seem to find ANY Glock 34 chrono testing online. Anyone have a link?

Also, just out of curiosity, does anyone have any comments regarding differences in recoil impulse regarding different bullet weights?

P.S. Sorry I forgot to tell you guys that I ordered from Kyle’s Gunshop.

Beuller?

I carry a G34 on duty and work with a couple of guys that also carry the same thing. Our Department issues 147 grain Speer Gold Dot. I don’t have any experience with the 124 grain Gold Dot but can say the 147 grain stuff fuctions great and we haven’t had any issues with it. We are issued 115 grain ball to qualify with and this fuctions pretty good also but I think they heavier bullets shoot better.
