I am going to try out a KAC SR-15, leaning towards the 11" vs the 14.5"
Is there a preferred setup (barrel and Suppressor) for suppressed use and dynamic shooting (not bench rest)
I called silencer shop and the didn’t seem to push the KAC as they thought it heavier and not as good db reduction as say the Griffin Rec 5
Can someone with some KAC experience give me some advice?
Questions
barrel length- trying to decide between the 11" and 14.5"
Suppressor, would you guys recommend to stay with KAC? which can?
Gas, I am a lefty; should I expect a gas out?
I would rather find all things out on the front end…
Youtube didn’t seem to have many examples of complete KAC setups either…
I shoot the Hk 416 10.4" profiled with SDN6 now, and it seems a bit heavy
Personally, I’d stick to the CQB. Hanging a suppressor off of a 14.5/16in gun was less than enjoyable for the few times I did it. Can’t really comment on the rest, I only have 60 rounds through a KAC with their shorty suppressor but I was surprised at how little I noticed any gas blowback to my face.
Go with 11.5; you won’t be disappointed. I have a SR15 CQB Mod 2 with the MLOK URX4 rail and a full size KAC 556 QDC suppressor; I could not be happier. Shoots very smooth, gas is minimal, and the KAC mounting system is really slick. My friend went out and bought the same setup right after he shot mine.
I vote factory SBR. With a factory SBR you wouldn’t have to engrave it and you should get that cool SBR prefix serial number instead of the regular KMXXXXXX that Knight’s uses. The 556 QDC is somewhat pricey but it is a pretty sweet setup; I don’t regret paying the extra money for it at all. FWIW, the current MLOK versions come with a LMT SOPMOD stock as opposed to the Magpul stock they show in the pictures of the MLOK version.
I prefer the 11.5 with the QDC CQB. The full size is nice also, but if your not running night vision, I find that the CQB can is plenty good on flash, and the rifle feels better and is balanced better. Gas to face is not really an issue with the KAC or Surefire mini cans on 11.5s. I also have a few KAC 14.5s with cans, and prefer the 11.5s over them. Just my opinion.
Thanks. So 11.5” it is. I will move in that direction now; I will look into the cqb and full size can. Would love to hear more opinions on which Size can now that things are narrowing down in choices
Crap; now I’m thinking I should buy a 556 QDC CQB suppressor so I can compare it to my 556 QDC. I should have never gotten involved in this conversation.
If you get into and out of vehicles with a rifle for a living, and value overall maneuverability in confined spaces above suppression, the 11.5 with CQB can is a very good option.
I personally prefer the larger QDC suppressor on the 11.5, especially if I am going to shoot for any duration without hearing protection.
My personal favorite 5.56 is the 14.5 carbine, as it merrily fills the “do everything” task out to ranges at which 5.56 is viable. Work well with either suppressor in environments in which overall length is not the primary concern.
Guys, I am awaiting a deposit on a gun I just sold, then going to order 11”
If I order as factory sbr it cost $260 more with tax and transfer fees (and the wait)
If u buy as upper and lower and form 1 it, It is cheaper and faster. Is a factory sbr realty worth it??
Getting a complete SBR has a certain attractiveness and allure to it, but at the end of the day is a longer path from factory to your hands than the individual form 1 process, especially if you are ok with a pistol setup until the form clears.
I ordered a factory sbr 11”.
I figure I can use the upper on mr sbr lower while I wait.
I figure it’s worth it in the long run. Hope to save up for a can in the next few weeks
