Going back to Glock from m&p.. For now anyways..

When the no-safety shield came out, I was first in line and fell in love. Over the following 4 weeks I ended up with a 9c and a 9 full-size for off duty/duty carry. To this day, I still cannot shoot them as well as my glocks. I do feel it’s a “me” issue, because when I really slow down, my m&p’s will shoot exactly where I want them to, but when I start to increase pace and do cadence drills, my groups go to about 5-8" at around 10 yards.

My M&Ps feel like heaven in my hands, and I don’t plan on getting rid of them, but until I get some time to put another 1000-2000 rounds down range to build my muscle memory and improve my accuracy, I’m going back to glock.

I know there have been others with similar experiences, just wanted to share mine…

That’ happened to me too. I got an M&P 45 and it took many hundreds of rounds to get that trigger broke in and get me good with it.

Nice pistol, but it’s now gone, and I’m back to my old Glock.

Hope this doesn’t happen to me. Just picked up an m&p a week ago but haven’t had a chance to shoot it.

“It’s me not the gun…” That’s my line!

The only M&P I have is the Shield. I have to put 50-75 rounds per month through it or I go back to firing low-left. I know it has a lot to do with the smaller grip size (insert size matters joke here), but I can shoot my Sig, Glock and HK with no issues…switching back and forth easily.

Good grief the money I would have saved between my 1st Glock and my current Glock if I hadn’t bought brand x,y,z trying to find something better (at least for my needs).

Many of my friends are always buying the latest fad. What is it this week? The VP9? Before that the P30, before that the M&P? I lose track.

I’ve got more G19s than I know what to do with. They do everything I want them to and they all use the same ammo, the same magazines, the same parts, the same sight picture, the same trigger pull, etc.

Learned this 2 years ago and haven’t looked back.

In 2012 I decided to shake everything up and start over from scratch. I bought a 2012 M&P. Love the pistol but I feel its accuracy is wanting. I’m thinking very hard about going to a G19. Just wish I didn’t have to buy pistol, mags, holsters, mag pouches, etc.

I love my Glocks, but the VP9 is on a different level. It’s the best striker fired pistol made. Will it ever outsell the Glock? Probably not, but damn does Hk make some fine firearms.

If you shoot glocks that much better even after that much time invested, I’d just stick with them. No reason to constantly fight yourself to be mediocre when you could grab a glock and focus and getting REALLY good.

That said, I personally prefer M&Ps over glock - slightly.

One suggestion, I noticed when going between the two, I have to “think” about aiming differently. I feel (in my head) like I’m pointing with my palms with the m&p, and pointing with my thumbs with glock. that gets the sights to track back to the target as the slide closes. Obviously its probably gonna be different for you, but point is, try “feeling” how you point the gun differently. From low ready, point the gun at random stuff and get a feel for how you can get the sights to naturally fall on the target. Then make sure you use that same “feel” for follow-ups.

When I first got into pistol shooting, I did this for about 5 range trips, along with just cadence shooting, paying attention to how the sights tracked(but not where they were pointing target-wise) to get a feel for it. It helped immensely.

I switched over to Glock’s in 2005 and am sticking with them for now on for my semi auto needs. Still love, shoot & carry revolvers too. But Ive not seen the need to keep trying everything that comes out when Glocks do for me what I want & need done. My newest one is my G41 .45ACP and I just love the damn thing. No pistol is perfect, but when I find one that works for me, I see no need in wasting additional money for little to no improvement.

Well I should add this… When the no safety shield came out, Glock didn’t have a single stack 9 and I jumped all over it. I have owned and shot M&P pistols in the past, and figured I’d move back to m&p for platform consistency (shield is/remains my duty backup).

In January, if the single stack 9mm glock isn’t introduced, I’ll probably pick up a Glock 42 and be done with it…

Aftermarket barrel?

I’d still buy a shield if I was going to get a deep concealment pistol. I shot Pappabear’s very well. My full size pistol remains a Glock however.

I went with the M&P 9mm full-size for a few months, it just never really grew on me and I didn’t like the trigger. I traded it to my brother well over a year ago, but had a chance to revisit it at the range this weekend when he came to visit. He also bought a VP9 recently, so I got to give it a go and I really liked it. Verdict: Still didn’t care for the M&P trigger at all, especially comparing with a G17 and VP9 side by side. I know there are aftermarket upgrade parts for the M&P trigger, but I could live happily ever after with the Glock and HK units right out of the boxes.

I don’t know if I’ll be jumping on the VP9 bandwagon, though, as I’m still totally happy with my P30S and HK45T. I’m still keeping my G17, too.

I went the other way. I bought an M&P 40c to replace my long-time G23 back in 2006 and immediately found I shot it better. Much, much better in fact due to a combination of grip angle and the small insert. That led to a multi-year replacement project getting M&Ps for Glocks, finally ending earlier this year when I sold off the last one - a G36 - and replaced it with a 45c. If S&W develops a single stack Shield .45 I’ll be done.

I can appreciate other platforms, but when the M&P works so well for me why bother?

I love my M&P45, but I just put money down on a Glock 19, which will be my new carry gun soon. 15 rounds, quite a reduction in size, and the Gen4s actually fit my hand well enough. Full size Glocks of any generation and any generation 3 Glocks are very uncomfortable (for me), but the Gen4 compacts fit my hand just right.

I’m never getting rid of my M&P though.

I went from Glocks to M&P’s, much like the OP…I bought a Shield for my wife, popped an Apex kit in, and went to put some rounds downrange. I was SHOCKED by the accuracy of such a small gun…I was consistently hitting 6" plates at 25 yards. So I figured - if the little one is this good - then the big ones should be better, right?

So I proceeded to pick up several more and swap out my Glocks (gotta keep the Mrs happy…if she sees too many new ones showing up she asks what I’m getting rid of, ha). I’m not a “collector” of guns by any means, to me they’re tools for specific purposes and the M&P’s and the Glocks fill the same niche.

However, my employer has a policy that the only handguns we’re allowed to run weapon mounted lights on are Glocks. This doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon despite my efforts to do so (and numerous others). I work nights and consider a weapon mounted light to be a necessary piece of gear…so my duty gun will be a Gen4 34 soon (currently carrying my issued Glock 22 until my next qualification). I wanted to carry an M&P9 Pro 5" on duty but I would have to do it without a WML and for me that’s a no-go.

I like the M&P ergonomics better out of the box - but with the beavertail backstrap options and some finger hump removal a Glock gets close enough for government work. One of the big things that drove me to the M&P originally was the beavertail as non-beavertail Glocks have a tendency to try to eat my hand.

So now I’m down to one non-Shield M&P - a M&P 9L - which I’ll be putting up for sale shortly. I just sold my M&P9 that had an RMR and was chopped to a 9C grip size. I’m gonna buy a 17 to carry when I’m not carrying the Shield and put another RMR on that. If Glock brings out the single stack 9mm then my Shield’s days may be numbered. I just can’t get on board with the 42 as I just don’t trust .380 for much more than a super CQ, defensive only round. I’d hate to be sporting a G42 and find myself in a heavily populated area with an active shooter on the loose…sure, it beats a sharp stick but I prefer to have something with a little more punch. With the Shield I’ve got 8+1 and another 8rd mag if I need it.

Again - I love the M&P’s but for my situation the Glocks are just a better fit.

I’ve got 1911, Sig, Glock, and H&K VP9. I’ve always shot the 1911 best. However, I pick up a Glock every time and know what to expect and it’s what I’d grab in a pinch. However, I just say the VP9 may end up being the pick. I’m shooting it much better than Glocks and done so pretty quickly.

I tried the M&Ps. The C has to small of a grip and the FS, while nice didn’t do anything for me. The 9mm had issues with steel case, 357 sig had issues. …period and while the 45 was fine I just didn’t care for it. Got rid of 357sig all together, the 9mm are two G19’s and the 45 is G21.
I do admit that I like and own a W. German Sig P220, Springfield TRP and S&W 4566. Something about the old work horses in 45acp but they are not my go to guns
