Ok my new Krieger varmatch 26" .223 match has failed the go gauge test.
I have tried 3 different bolts and no love.
I know you match the bolt to the barrel but I don’t have a bin full of them
any recommendations?
Or it goes back tomorrow and I send the upper to Krieger let them do the whole thing. Would have done that to start with but I won’t have it for a year if Krieger does it.
I’m guessing this is going to be a long costly process for you. Head space gauges have mind f’d more people than LSD. If your using a bolt of a known quality, I’d argue you should assemble the upper receiver group and head to the range. I wouldn’t second guess Krieger on a bet.
Well I kind of had the same mindset. Went outside and loaded a mag and let the bolt slam home. Did not lock up enough to fire. Had to beat the charging handle back to get the round out.
Now this is a brand new mur upper with a BMC bolt carrier group. Took my spikes bolt carrier out of my other gun and tried it with the same results. Had another spare bolt and took the injector out and tried it. No dice.
took the barrel off and tried all three bolt with both the go gauge and a live round and not dice.
Did get a lot of practice removing and installing injectors and extractors.
I got the barrel from Midway. Now I do not know if Krieger did all the work or midway had someone buy a Krieger blank and ream the chamber and install the barrel extension.
Are cartridge cases or projectile showing any kind of scrapes or scuffs maybe indicating a burr in the chamber? If that barrel turns out to be short chambered my fondness for Krieger may take a hit. Have you thought about just tying to exchange it through Midway?
If the chamber is intentionally cut short for final reaming, you will have to use a reamer to remove material from the chamber. I would get on the phone to Krieger and ask first.

This doesn’t change my perception of Krieger at all
In fact at the same time the barrel goes back to midway that upper will be headed for Krieger for them to install the exact same barrel. It is just I won’t see it for a year.
Call up Compass Lake and see what they can do for you on a barrel if you want a Krieger. They usually have several kriegers of various flavors in stock. I think mine took 3-4 weeks to show up.
In cut rifling they some times also have Bartlein.
