Glock spare parts

For those of you with a higher round count down range with the Glock pistols.

What spare parts do you recommend having on hand?

What parts do you replace and at what intervals?

What are some common breakages or weak links in the system?

How often do you rebuild your mags if ever?

Thanks!

I keep a spare set of springs with me in my range bag or in my truck when I’m shooting. It guarantees that nothing will ever break until I forget 'em.

Glock springs are cheap and easy to replace so I replace all of 'em about every 3K or so when I put in a new recoil spring. Way overkill, I know…

The main one to have IMO would be a trigger spring and slide lock spring.

Got it.

Slide lock spring. That is one I had not thought about.

Thank you!

I’m one of those weirdos who likes the NY-1 and “-” connector combo so I don’t really worry about the trigger spring.

I do keep at least two extra guide rod assemblies and an extra slide stop with spring on hand.

I broke a locking block pin, trigger spring, and an extractor.

After ordering replacement parts from time to time, I always seem to get just a few extra parts. Just in case. Depending on how far you strip it down for cleaning, eventually your going to need a part. A spring cup gets chipped. A safety plunged spring gets lost. Bottom line is your gun will go down and need a $2.00 part.

A slide stop and spring is a must. Not long ago, my G27 started failing to lock back on the last round. Had a new slide stop. Problem solved.

I seem to recall a recommendation from armorer’s class attendees to replace gen 3 G23 RSA’s at 2,500 rounds, G22 RSA’s at 3,000 or so, and the 9mm gen 3 RSA’s at 5,000 or so. The gen 4 dual springs are rated for double or more IIRC.

There was a recommendation for magazine spring replacement intervals I dont remember at the moment.

I’m sure someone will come along shortly to clarify.

Slide lock spring is the only part i’ve ever had break on a Glock, and it took some work to get the broken half out of it’s notch in the frame. I keep several on hand and replace them every 5K. Same with the mag release spring. Those are two parts that if they break far enough down could really screw you bad. I also keep extra pins/springs as well as the small stuff like the SLB and spring cups.

Gone through a few slide stops (spring breaks, get premature lockbacks), so I keep one on hand.
I replace all the springs at 15k, and the RSA every 3k, or right after a class.

And THIS is why I think everyone should own multiple Glocks of the same type.

For some reason, I now have this overwhelming urge to inventory my spare parts, read through my repair log, and order SOMETHING TOMORROW MORNING!

If your lucky enough to know a gunsmith in a gunshop (and I mean know him well), ask if he has any “leftover” parts. Some customers will have upgrades performed ie extended slide release, steel guide rod, extended mag release, …the works. And some do not want the stock parts when they pickup their new improved blaster.

Yep, it is nice when parts are interchangeable. Alot of the parts in my Glock 27 can be used in my 23’s.

Cant stand it any longer. I gotta go take inventory… (anyone know if there is a clinical term for my condition?)

“Type A Preparedness”

Where would a guy go about assembling a spare parts kit online?

glockworx, glockmeister, brownell’s, midway, lone wolf, etc?

Do you recommend glock oem, or lwd or ???

I have extra vickers slide releases as well as oem extended releases and my take off stock releases.

I have a spare complete trigger, also have spare striker springs and safety plunger springs.

Do not have spare ejector or extractors (those are a must I need to address).

How about rsa’s, I have gen4 17’s and 34’s, do you recommend sticking the oem or going with an uncaptured gr?

Something I’ve been meaning to address more completely. I’ve finally come to the phase where I’m duplicating and stocking spares in my inventory, kind of exciting to be “prepared” when it comes to the 2 is 1 theory.

I’m partial to www.glockparts.com. Fast shipping. And I try to stick with OEM unless it things like the Vickers Mag release or grip plugs.

Brownells is a site sponsor (just look at the top of the page) and they pretty much have everything for Glock factory parts.

Brownells gets my vote. No. 2 would be Midway if Im in a tight spot and Brownells is out of stock. Never used glockparts but I will keep him in mind.

I will try just about anything if it gives me an advantage, OEM or aftermarket. If I see decent reviews, I may try it. My Gen 2 Glock23 is my best shooter. Its at home in my hand. Like a faithful Dog. Never let’s me down. I carry a Glock 27. As long as my experiments on th G23 don’t create bad habits that migrate to the 27, no problem.

I picked up the habit years ago to use your support hand to pull the slide back to release it from the SLIDE STOP

Brownell’s is about 90 miles from me, so I always keep them in mind, I like supporting an Iowa business.

Just wondering if there was a better option out there. Thanks for the advice fellas.

(Bumped send by accident.)

So I don’t use a slide release. Can’t shake the habit.

On the RSA, the OEM is good enough. Get some spares.

I did get curious about the stainless steel guide rod and tried it. It does give it a little more weight out at the muzzle. It is reported to increase the accuracy. But I can’t tell a diff. Maybe if I slap a Dr Optic on it, I may see the benefits then. It was a captured spring design. I think the uncaptured variety is for changing springs based on the round you are shooting. Like your reloads for the match this weekend my not cycle well so you switch to a lighter spring.

I have heard from several sources that the Slide Lock could negatively affect accuracy. The barrel is at rest engaged with the slide lock at the moment it is fired. My G27 had many thousands of rounds thru it and the slide lock looked as if it had been abused. I installed a new one and I really think it helped accuracy. Switched back to the old one and confirmed.

Oh, and get some Spring Loaded Bearings. The plastic piece on the end of the ejector spring. They are color coded for each caliber. Not a high wear item, but could be lost.

And if you REALLY want to be prepared, get a few spacer sleeves. Its in the channel were the firing pin rides. I have no clue how someone could wear out one of those. Maybe a pierced primer could damage it. But I would hate to be without one and needed it.

But the one of the best payoffs you can get is when someone knows you are THEE GLOCK MAN and you get the phone call “Hey, what do you call those two black plastic things that holds the spring onto the firing pin??? And where on earth can I get one? I was putting it back together just like the youtube dude said to when one just popped off and I can’t find it. Its somewhere in my garage, but…” And just like that, a Hero is born.
(True story, BTW. Terry, I hope you’re reading this:D)

I have used Brownells, Glockmeister, and Glock Parts with success. You should definetly buy RSA’s and spring kits if nothing else. I like to have an extra extractor (Apex), connector, spring cups, channel liner, and pins on hand. Brownells has lots of stuff in stock so check there first.

Same here. I like having Brownells close because not only do I get to support a local business, I usually get my orders pretty fast. This is where I go to for the vast majority of anything AR related.

I discovered Glockparts.com when I was looking for a 30274 ejector and a “-” connector. IIRC, Brownells doesn’t carry the Glock OEM connector.
