I am making the switch from P-35 to Glock. I’ve always used Milt Sparks for my holsters and mag pouches (i.e. leather) I have tried Kydex mag pouches from Comp Tac that did not seem to work well with the P-35 mags… the metal mags seemed to BIND on withdrawal… my only Glock buddy (in a different state) carries Glock in Kydex and mags in leather.
So, if any VERY experienced Glock guys would like to school me on mag pouch choices I’d appreciate it.
Are these general use mag pouches.? If so, I really like the HSGI Taco pouches. They have belt mounted and molle mounted versions. They have adjustable retention and work with most double stack magazines. If you haven’t already, take a look at the G-code INCOG holsters with mag caddy. It’s an appendix carry holster but can be adapted to other methods of carry. Holds a Glock 19 very comfortably.
For concealed carry, properly made kydex offers the lowest profile, retention, and speed. You can even customize your kydex to hold your mags looser or tighter or to “click” in via the mag catch cutout. The hard part is finding one made to the size and shape you prefer. Raven does awesome work but their mag pouches are sorta wide. Blade Tech has some smaller ones but you have to be careful with their belt attachment choices (TekLok sticks way out). There are plenty of other choices but I ended up just making my own mag/light pouches and using Raven holsters.
I have a drawer full of Mitch Rosen, Galco, Bianchi, Aker and other leather that kydex replaced a decade ago…
Leather feels great but kydex is faster, lighter, and most importantly less bulky and more concealable.
I’m a big fan of kydex. Low profile, retention, easy to clean and plenty of different choices out there.
I have used leather before and have a couple different brands that are the my go to rigs when it’s “BBQ” time. I use my leather gear for more show than anything, to be honest. I mean, everyone has to have some sort of gator or crocodile rigs right???
What’s your intended use? Concealed carry, molle belt, etc.
This was kind of what happened to me. I tried Kydex mag pouches in Montana and I would have to adjust my tension screws over the course of the day because of the huge temperature fluctuation over the day, so I stayed with leather. Currently in TX and switching to Tupperware gun and would like to use Kydex. I’d like two single mag pouches. Use is Concealed Carry (priority) and IDPA/Mutligun too.
