GLOCK mag base plate removal?

I just acquired a G26. I want to remove the factory base plate on the mag to add a grip extender. I can not get the factory base plate to come off. Is there some kind of trick to get them off. Thanks for any help.

I ask because I assume you do not know.

Do you know there is a retaining plate under the base plate?

Take a punch or something and depress the small circle in the middle of the base plate. While depressing this circle, slide the base plate toward the front of the mag. It should come off. Assembly is the reverse.

No tricks.

Good luck!

Check this link, it will show you what RD is saying in pictures.

This link has video: Mag Disassembly.

Some of my mags that I took apart to clean didn’t come apart as easily as the video. I placed a punch on a counter with only an inch sticking out and leveraged the mag to use some of my weight to get it past the base plate catch. Once it clicks you are past the catch and can take apart easily from there.

Tape up a clamp or vise of some sort so the metal wont scar plastic mag, then put lateral pressure on the bottom of the mag body, this pinches the mag to relase the base plate, then poke with a punch and everything should be good.

There’s really no need to do this. And the notion of squeezing a mag body in a vise (even at the base) freaks me out.

Glock mag is designed to flex like that.
