In a couple months there’ll be an opportunity for me to attend the Glock Armorer’s Course through the GSSF here in NV. For those who’ve taken the course is it worth the $150 and the day for the class? Please explain your experience. Anything I should know prior to taking the course? Any recommendations or advice?
I went into the AC having never done anything more than a field strip of my GLOCKs. It was a bit nervous … especially when I found out there was a written test at the end. It was NO big deal. Personally, I found the course to be quite helpful. I am now 100% comfortable with the safety features of the GLOCKs and what each part does, etc.
However, if you are already familiar with all this you probably won’t get much from the course other than the ability to buy guns & parts at a discount. Even so … that still makes it all worthwhile.
I went ahead and signed up for the class so the deal’s been sealed. However, I haven’t seen listed anywhere the limits to ordering parts, magazines, pistols, etc after going through the course, are there any? It’s not even mentioned in the course description.
I found the course useful from a gun nerd perspective. I learned a lot from the instructor about more detailed troubleshooting, maintenance and history of the platform.
From what I’ve heard, however, I was fortunate to have my particular instructor. Hey, $150 isn’t a bad price for an armorer’s course either.
IIRC you have to be LE, a GSSF member, or a stocking dealer.
I think the only thing you need to bring is maybe a pair of clear lens glasses; sometimes springs can fly. They provided our class with the manual and a pen.
You will get a ring binder for the course. In it will be the parts list and order forms along with coupons to purchase complete weapons at dealer cost (you just need to find a dealer that honors the coupon).
I took it in Smyrna last November. Course was great. I was a little underwhelmed with the factory though. I don’t know what I was expecting but it looks like an office complex.
Like others said … the only required “to bring” item is a pair of safety glasses. I think our instructor had a couple of extra pair just in case someone forgot.
They provided a notepad, pen, the Armorers Manual, the addendum to the Manual (which included the parts list/order form, etc.), a GLOCK tool to keep, a orange slide cover plate to keep, and a pistol to use during the class.
The instructor will ask a million times of anyone has a personal/duty gun or any ammo in the room, on their person, in their bag, etc. They WILL make you put them in your vehicle for safety reasons … NO EXCEPTIONS.
To take the course you have to be a LEO/MIL, GSSF member, stocking dealer, or guest of a stocking dealer (I think they can allow someone to take the course on their status). There might be other exceptions but these are the basic ones.
Regarding ordering guns & parts … I think you can order extra mags in conjunction with a pistol order but not off the parts order sheet. You can order magazine parts … but not complete mags. I don’t think there is any limit to the number of parts you can order. Just know that parts orders take a couple of weeks to fill.
They have one scheduled within a 2 hour drive in July but I’m not a GSSF member (yet). If you take the armorer’s class, is the price an LE price or actual cost? With GSSF, you get one LE priced Glock per year.
