Glock and M&P

+1 My Pro 9 trigger is very good. The last two FS models I’ve handled were not bad. As soon as I can score a Pro FS 9, one of my 5 remaining Glocks will probably be flipped for it.

This guy posted on ARF claiming to be issued the M&P 45…
I’d like to pick his brain for more, but I’m banned from ARF again for some reason.

Sounds like the bad strikers, but I’d love to find out more on the trigger falling out to see if it was the same issue I found on my pistol.

I’m issued an M&P 45. Went to go requal at the range again the other day, when I went to fire my first round nothing happened (that’s just awesome cause who needs that first round, the one that counts, to go off). This isn’t the first time the weapon hasn’t worked either. I had 3 fail to fires that day. The other four guys from my unit had several fail to fires and double feeds. It seems like every time I go to the range I watch as multiple officers have their weapons jam on them. I clean my weapon every day before work and never keep the same round in the chamber for more than two days in a row, so I know its not the ammo. I witnessed the trigger fall out of an officers M&P. Yes I said that, THE TRIGGER FELL THE FUCK OUT. The gun is a cheap glock knock off that smith and wesson rushed out into the hands of law enforcement by under cutting all other manufactures, just so they could have a better marketing slogan. “look all the cops carry our gun so it has to be good.” I have my weapon out at least twice a day and I don’t trust that the piece of junk is gonna go off when I need it. Is smith and wesson gonna bring the dead cop back when he gets killed and in his hand is another jammed M&P? I doubt it. That gun is nothing more that a sigma with a light rail and different grips. Its junk the only person I would recommend it to is my worst enemy.

I entertained doing that but what was the point. I don’t shoot my wife’s M&P 9mm as well as my G17 (I blame that on the fact I’m so used to Glocks). I simply don’t want to own an M&P for myself just to shoot something different. For recreational fun I’d rather shoot something completely different like a 1911 or a S&W DA revolver anyways. The M&P has proven to be a good alternative to those who complain about the usual stuff about Glocks (grip angle/grip feel/Glock “Perfection”) so I’m glad they’re out there .

Thank you for reminding me why I’m not a member on TOS…

You don’t like forums with ZERO integrity? :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know if the guy’s post is legit or what. I’d love to ask him more about his reply.

Blasphemer! Repent by doing 1000 dry fires and shooting 1000 rounds through your M&P!:stuck_out_tongue:

I want to like the M&P, I really do. As I carry AIWB more and more, the concept of a reliable and reasonable priced pistol with a frame mounted safety is really attractive. However, I think I have I simply have way too many trigger presses with a Glock to move off the platform for serious purposes at this point in my life.

If I was a newbie, I would think very long and hard re the M&P, with or without the improved triggers being offered by the factory, Apex and the fine pistol tuners on this and other boards.

That’s just it. The striker can break if you dry fire the piss out of it. The first Gen strikers would break much easier than the striker I have. But the gurus say to use snap caps with the M&P regardless.

Started shooting G22 (work gun) in 2001. Bought an M&P (personal gun) in late '08. Just sold the M&P last month and converted those funds into a G23. Why? The M&P was just different enough in ergonomics and trigger (curved vs. flatter & reset feel) that it bothered me to switch back and forth. The Glock is proven - you know exactly what it will do. M&P, IMO, is still settling - for lack of a better term.

Looking back, I jumped to the M&P because the Glock was, honestly, boring. Boring reliability, boring ergos, boringly fine performance. Nothing special about it. Same as every other Glock. IMO, there is something to be said for sticking with one weapon system. Jumping from one to another can potentially screw you when it really counts.

This has been my experience.

I was also stuck on the fence on the M&P platform, but I needed a smaller off duty auto & the M&P9C felt so much better in the hand than the G26.

I’ve broken a couple of the 1 gen strikers w/o snap caps, but luckily, they are easy to replace. Now I use snap caps religiously. They are cheap insurance and haven’t had to replace another striker since.

I have some damned 45 snap caps around here somewhere. I can’t remember what I did with them though.

Mark,

Don’t know what to tell ya.

A good friend of mine, who belongs to another organization, w/in the one I work for, was issued a M&P .45 a year ago.

He received his gun early, to participate in the annual shooting competition, him and his team mates, took the guns straight from the box, and put 2700 rounds thru each, with no additional lube or cleaning.

A year later, the entire org. has them, with zero issues. To hear him tell it, the only shooters not happy are the ones “you can’t make happy”, old timers wishing they still had their Sig 220’s.

Overall they are extremely happy with them.

If all you need, is a 25 dollar APEX sear, or 100 dollar trigger job from S&W, I can live with that.

The M&P .40, with the pro shop work, are now my go to guns.

Bob

Mine has 640 rounds through it with no Malfs. The guy never posted anything further in the M&P 45 thread on ARF.

This is no longer true. The newest gen of strikers have passed a 70K dry fire test.

C4

That’s good. I have still been dry firing mine a little anyway.

Mark,

Why would you carry something you consider a piece of shit? With so many options out there wouldnt you say that makes you kind of…um…dumb to be sticking with something that’s so terrible?

Now, if its an issued pistol then i rescind the aforementioned comments and sympathize with you that you arent able to run what you trust.

For what its worth my primary training pistol and my only full size 9 has seen more than 30k rounds at this point and god knows how many dry fires. Ive spent almost two years now dry firing it EVERY night at LEAST 50-100 times each evening. I havent broken anything in the gun and it is still using its original springs.

The only part that ive replaced is the sear with an Apex unit and quite frankly im stunned at how much that sear improved the trigger. There is almost NO creep, the trigger breaks at 4 pounds 2 ounces and there is zero overtravel. For me, the guns have been utterly reliable and dependable and i would stake my life on them any day of the week.

One of my best friends trains and carries the M&P series on duty and its really reassuring knowing that hes protected by a firearm that has the potential to do what my firearms and many others have done.

All machines have problems, period, end of story and there is no perfect solution to anything.

My gun is good where it counts… reliability. My specific pistol isn’t a piece of shit. It’s just had a few irritating issues. Shit trigger (of course), off center fixed sights, and the tiny trigger pin was sticking out.

I’ve just become frustrated with Smith & Wesson and lashed out that the platform is shit.
