If I have a Glock 34, and a Glock 19, do I really need a Glock 17?
.
I think you do. You really need two 17’s but first, I’d get another 19.
Good thing about guns is that they don’t spoil.
.
Maybe I should mention some specifics.
Glock 34, Stock with Trijicon night sights.
Glcok 19, 3.5 connector, Mepro NS, Extended Slide Release.
Yes. Everyone needs a G17. Actually you need two G17s but we’ll start with one ![]()
Seriously, you’ll have to evaluate your own needs because everyone is different. I don’t have or need a G34 because I have G17s and G19s but I want one.
I like Glocks. But shoot my HKs more. P2k, 9mm/.40 and HK45. Much lead has gone down range with those.
If I was to buy a Glock 17, I’d want a G34 trigger, straight-8’s, Vicker’s mag release and an X300.
I think you need a G26 too, to complete the ensemble. G34 and G19 thats like buying the purse and the shoes and not getting the ear rings.
Need? Probably not. But the real issues are what are your specific needs and wants. The G17 and G19 are excellent general purpose defensive handguns. Frankly, the G34 can perform similarly-after all, it’s only about the same profile as a Colt Government.
What you’re probably looking at is the best Glock considering their incrimental differences and niche applications (perhaps including clothing/equipment options). There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that approach- and since you’re using the same platform, it’s all the better.
Best, Jon
No gun cabinet is complete without a G17. That being said, your G34 and G19 will get you by until you can get a 17.
I love the 17 but the 19 is priority and the 34 is a nice compliment.
I feel that no gun cabinet is complete with a G19… It’s the “do it all” pistol.
I started my Glock affliction with a G26 shortly after they first came out. I’ve had one since.
I then discovered the G19. Next, I added a G34. At this point, I was asking the same question that the OP is posing. I went ahead and bought a G17.
After shooting the G17, I discovered I liked it better than my G34. I sold off the G34. The G17 seemed to balance a tad bit better for me, and I shot both the G17 and the G34 about the same.
I still occasionally use the G26 in a FIST kydex pocket holster in the summer. But to be honest, a Glock 19 can fill about any need that I personally have for a 9mm.
If every gun I own were to be lost in a fire, the first gun I would buy would be a Glock 19.
I’d say no, but for my purposes I’d probably lean towards the 34 as an iron sighted only (no red dot or visible laser) nightstand gun over the 17 and carry the 19 while having them set up identically (trigger, sights, controls). Realistically that’s probably not much difference between the 34 and 17 when doing defensive/combat style shooting. What are you using them for?
I’m still 50/50 on it. But I think I’d rather buy another HK!
As it is, I haven’t shot my G34 in 2-3 years and the only reason I bought a G19 was to have a G19. It has spent more time in someone else’s safe than mine, as they borrow it to teach someone to shoot. I don’t even know why I put NS on either one. They never come out of the safe.
In that case, it sounds like the money would be better spent on ammo for a gun you do shoot!
Roger that! ![]()
No you don’t need a whole G17… just get a slide and barrel from Lone Wolf.
When I get enough for a RMR set up this is the route I have planned. G17 upper with sight and just slap it on my G34 frame.
I think I am going to stick to some more ammo and quality range time with my P2k.
Thanks guys.
If a Glock 17 is an option, a Glock 17 is usually the answer. ![]()
My 17 is my all time favorite pistol. I have tried just about everything out there and keep coming back to it. I prefer it to a 19 only because I shoot it better than a 19. Some people are the exact opposite.
My 34 has a X300 mounted 99% of the time; it’s the perfect light equipped pistol. The X300 is just barely behind the barrel so the lens does not get fouled by carbon. When the light is on the 17 it gets dirty quick.
You have a good mix of capability with the 34/19 combo. But a Glock 17 is a real good mix of the two. Kind of the best of both worlds, so to speak.
If I could have only one handgun, it would be a Glock 17.
just buy it and shoot it. The G17 was my 1st duty pistol and is GTG pistol. I have a G19 that filled the bill for off duty and the G26 is my BUG.
I feel the same,
I cant decide what to get either a G34OD or a G17OD I dont want both
Already have the 19 and 26.
