I am considering another handgun for concealed carry. I currently own an M&P 9c and a Kahr cm9.
I usually carry the cm9 because it carries so well IWB and still shoots pretty well. It’s biggest downside is that you basically have to let the trigger all the way out to reset. This makes it hard to switch back and forth between it and many other guns.
The M&P 9c is nice, but I don’t shoot it as well as the glock 17 I used to have. The grip feels good but doesn’t point quite as naturally as the glock seemed to. I don’t really shoot it much better than the kahr so the easy carry of the kahr wins out.
I’ve read great things about the PPQ, but I’ve never held one. My LGS says he can’t get them right now. I’m concerned that the size of the PPQ will make it more difficult to carry. Also, will it be like the M&P series and not point as well for me? I hate to rule it out without even holding one. If I went with the PPQ, I would have to wait to get it.
I’m leaning towards getting a G26. It feels good in my hand. I don’t mind the glock trigger (not as smooth as the Kahr but lighter and a shorter reset). It also points really well for me. Downsides, switching back and forth between the glock and kahr would probably be worse than carrying one all the time. If the 26 is much harder to conceal then I might just carry the kahr all the time. Then, I would be wasting my money on the 26. Also, I’ve heard Glock reliability hasn’t been as good in recent years. Does this apply to the 26 as well?
So, I’m debating between getting a Glock 26 now (LGS has 4 on the way) or waiting to look at a PPQ (who knows when he can get one in.) Right now, I like the cm9 so it’s not the end of the world if it takes a while to find something.
I had a similar choice. I bought a Glock 23 at a good price and I am hoping to get a PPQ as soon as I can, but like you, my LGS is iffy on when he will get one in
I have the G26 Gen4 and G17 Gen4. I never had any malfunctions with either firearm. They work flawlessly. I know people complain about the extractor issue, but both my Glocks don’t have that problem.
I have owned both, and shot many thousands of rounds through both. Glock has everything in the world available for it, lots of aftermarket stuff and extras. PPQs, like P99s, are really, really sweet pistols. I like the grip, the mag release, everything about them. But that’s me. A lot of what makes a handgun a good fit is the user whose hand it will be going in! Try to get one in your hand, keep an eye out for a rental or perhaps someone at your local range bringing one in -if you get a chance to shoot one, even better. I am a fanatic about Walther’s polymers, but you won’t get me to bad mouth Glock either.
If you like your 17, you will like the 26. I love mine. I’ve shot whole classes with them and I carry concealed with nothing but shorts and a t-shirt when weather and local laws permit.
I have a gen3 26 and a PPQ. I carry the 26 iwb with the 10 round mag in a Sparks Watch Six and hardly know it’s there. I also have several G17 magazines with the sleeve for shooting the 26 at the range or when it rides in my vehicle. I shoot the 26 with the 17 mags as accurately as a 17 or 19. My 26 has Trijicons and a Vickers mag release. It is totally reliable and very accurate, and very easy to concealed carry. Great pistol and no complaints, but I’d give it away in a heartbeat if I had to choose between it and my PPQ. Trouble is, Walther Arms is now handling the importation and distribution of the PPQ and they are not expecting any in for a while, I was told mid February at the earliest. Who knows? My advice would be get the 26 and several 17 mags. Gen4’s seem to be fine. You may not be able to get a PPQ.
On the PPQ, bear in mind that the model that will be sold in the US is the PPQ M2, which has a conventional button mag release instead of the trigger-guard paddle release on the versions that have been sold here so far. Apparently the PPQ is going to be a European-only model.
Dollars are easier to get these days than are guns. If you can get the G26 now for a good price, you can always trade down to the PPQ when/if you can hold it in your hand.
I’d get the G26. I have a Gen3 manufactured in June 2012. It has 600 rounds through it now, only 1 malfunction due to a mag issue. (I tried a Ca compliant G17 10 rounder)
The transition from the G17 to the 26 is incredible. I shoot the 26 just as well. Its a great gun.
What Grant actually said was that there is hope of seeing a “tactical” variant (at some point) with the triggerguard mounted mag release. He said he’s going to talk to them at Shot about keeping this model around.
I’m sure Grant’s a real mover and shaker in the firearms industry, but I hope he brings along some additional muscle when he has that conversation with Walther Arms.
Own both, I’d get the PPQ now and search for mags. Fact is although the 26 is very accuate, your hand will hang off the back. The angled contour of the PPQ slide enables it to carry well IWB.
Maybe Vickers could push it as well. I’m not sold on the PPQ yet, as I’ve only put 2 mags through mine, but it is a very ergonomic pistol. I still carry my G26 and don’t have big plans on switching anytime soon. At this point, I would pick up whichever was available and as many extra mags as feasible.
If I had to keep one, it would be the PPQ. Paddle release for me. Mags are duplicates of the 9mm IMI Baby Eagle ones, about $30 each, about right for a high cap these days. Not as available in the aftermarket as the Glocks but just get 6 and be done.
I like both of these pistols, but I do notice that my hand hangs off the back on the G26. Not a huge deal, just different ergonomics of the grip. PPQ’s are getting hard to find.
For this… Just last night, i haven’t shoot it yet. I’ve owned a few other glocks but i always wanted to try a g26… He needed a lower and i needed a pistol, nuff said.
