Glock 21 Holster Help

Greetings,

Does anyone knows if there is a Blackhawk SERPA holster out there for a Glock 21 with a Streamlight TRL-1 light attached. It needs to be compatable with their leg rig.

Perhaps another manufacturer? Any help greatly appreciated!

I’d suggest a Safariland 6004 or 6304. This is a much better quality and safer product. The SERPA is associated with a higher incidence of ND’s since the trigger finger is used to release the weapon.

I don’t believe Blackhawk makes a Serpa to fit that light. I too would recommend the Safariland. The other potential issue with the Serpa is the possibility of debris locking things up. I believe there were some instructors (Kyle Lamb being one of them?) That banned Serpa holsters from their classes for this reason. I have had two different Serpa holsters. They were fast and easy to use, but there are better choices out there for serious use when there is a possibility of debris getting in the holster.

Cogent advice. And as Maineshooter says, they have been made a no-go by many instructors, FLETC, et al. You/he will notice the quality difference immediately.

Get a Safariland.

Good luck.

I read somewhere recently that they have a new model coming out to use 3rd party lights. I went back and tried to find it but I couldn’t. It’s very clunky looking.

Blackhawk only make the SERPA to fit their light.

It is sad that people blame the holster for the NDs not the operator. I and many others including the US Army have used the SERPA as both a CCW and duty holster since its inception; I like them as do many others. That is why there is Ford and Chevy or Safariland and Blackhawk.

Great advice & comments! Now if only I could find 1 for sale in Flat Dark Earth color.

Thanks again,

I believe what the Sensei was getting at is because of the action to release the weapon, the incidence of NDs is higher with these holsters. He did not assign blame. This follows when you consider their use in basic training scenarios such as at FLETC. Weapons release with the trigger finger + people new to guns (many without manual safeties) = NDs.

I find them to be cheaply constructed, flimsy, and there is no shortage of reports of them getting snow or dirt behind the release button essentially locking the pistol into the holster. For a little more $$$ you can have a better designed holster.

YMMV

Hello,
Yes, I understood exactly what he was trying to say. Still kind of funny though & it made me snicker thinking about blaming a holster for an ND is like blaming a firearm for a gun crime/school shooting.

In these trying times we must not loose out sense of humor!

Stay safe out there & remember to keep your finger off the trigger until your ready to fire! :sarcastic:

I have seen a few folks modify the safariland 6004 to fit a blackhawk leg rig as the leg platform is leaps and bounds above what is offered by safariland. Not sure if they make the G 21 holster in FDE but you can always check with Safariland support. I know that my department just recently quit allowing the Serpa due to incidents they had heard about and a few of our guys had to modify their issues 6004 or 6280s to fit on the blackhawk platform so it can be done.

The rub against the SERPA when it comes to ND’s seems to come from the belief that activation of the release places the trigger finger in close proximity to the trigger and requires flexion of the digit. Does the holster cause the ND? Of course not, but it does create a set of circumstances where the risk of ND’s is increased compared to holsters such as the Safariland due to motion of the trigger finger during release.

The second half of the rub deal with quality and design of the locking mechanism that allows debris to render the weapon stuck - good times . This problem is well documented and part of the reason why many instructors ban their use in classes.

as an update…Blackhawk will have a new holster to fit Surefires, Streamlights…the Epoch

Thanks for the heads up!
