Glock 17 Gen 4 review

I bought myself a new Christmas present. I really liked the grip on the new Gen 4 series and decided to get a Glock 17 (my favorite Glock) to replace my Gen 3. I am still keeping the Gen 3 as a spare. I got the gun and had not had a chance to shoot it due to bad weather until last Sunday when I shot it at an IDPA match. For the match it was bone stock and it was the first time I had fired it. I did not yet have the new sights for the match or the 4.5 pound Glock connector. I did ok at the match getting 5th out of 15. Not my best but that was not the guns fault. My practice time in the winter has been near zero.

I like the grip angle and the fact the grip is tackier (much better gripping surface) I also like how the grip is smaller over all. It points like a 1911 with a arched mainspring housing. No longer does my front sight fly up out of the rear sight notch when I am practicing my draws on dry fire.
Then last Monday I got the Tru Glow fiber optic night sights in that I like and the Glock 4.5 pound connector. I installed both and went to the range. I fired 3 groups off hand at 15 yards during the sight in process. I did not take as much time on these groups as I should and they are around 4 inches. Once I had it sighted in I moved the target to 25 yards and fired 2 5 shot groups and they averaged approximately 3 inches.

I fired a 50 round department qualification and I am now carrying it as my duty gun. The main improvement I see is the grip. Not sure about the recoil spring assembly as I could not feel any reduction in recoil.
A friend of mine got a Glock 21 Gen 4 and I really liked how the grip feels on it as well. It makes the large frame Glocks much more tolerable for those of us with small hands. I am planning on getting a Glock 20 for fun later.
