What a wasted opportunity. Their progressive heavy-handed virtue signaling totally ruined what could have been a really interesting message.
OK, I’ll let slide a PoundMeTwo reference, but the ‘toxic masculinity’ and the overt use of the Young Turks Twit is over the top.
Not that I think Unilever is any better, but P&G is on the avoid list now and I’ll never buy another gillete.
Besides being also being a little bit racist.
I can’t figure out if these progressives are so tone deaf that they don’t even understand that they are making things worse, or that they don’t care. Do they not understand that this is at best a 50:50 position, instead of taking a more broad approach and getting 80-90% of people?
They will hide behind the big message of actually acting like a mensch and say that anyone who complains about the ad is some caveman, misogynist creep.
The a-holes in their ad dept are probably all enjoying their Zima’s at the bar tonight. Metaphorically back-slapping each other (no touching) about how they used their billion dollar corporation and someone else’s money to virtue signal about how woke they are.
My son at the USMA - West Point receives a monthly shipment from Dollar Shave Club. He’s says their product is quite acceptable, and no social justice messaging.
Ah jeez,NOW I gotta find another blade.
I didnt care much until I sat the rat faced bitch from Young Turks then a couple more f-tards.
PLENTY of other USA made options out there. Been wanting to use a straight razor for years…now would be a good time. classicshaving.com for the win. OLD School stuff Ive been buying for years.
Aww, horse hockey! You guys are getting Lightfighter.comish talking about shaving at stuff.
I’ve been happily having Harry’s Blades delivered for a couple years. You guys prompted me to look at their website. Under ABOUT I found a link to SOCIAL MISSION. I gulped, and clicked on it thinking I was probably going to be treated to a bunch of oil bearded lumberjack sexuals lathering each other up. I immediately noticed a lathered-up Mountie riding an elephant. This increased my feeling of unease.
I started kind of clinching as I read this: We give to organizations that challenge stereotypes around masculinity. But, down the page it got worse: Masculinity is evolving in real time. I thought, shit, I was feeling ancient and irrelevant because they just got ride of the last TOE Pathfinder Unit in the Army, and now men are evolving. Is my penis going to fall off? I better ask my wife to look in her purse and see if it is still there. It got worse when I read: We strive to support guys where they are, rather than where someone tells them to be. We spend a lot of time on the topic of masculinity here at Harry’s, and recently interviewed 5,000 guys across the U.S. to find out what really matters to them. Turns out it’s honesty over sports. Openness over stoicism. Explore the full results of our survey here. You might be surprised. Or not. Then they invited me to LEARN MORE
So I clicked the learn more button and read the survey (I like to read, anyways). Not too bad. I learned about the Positive Mindset Index and found that I’m in pretty good shape.
But really guys, enough with the what blades are we using and shaving cream commercials, take that crap to the Lightfighter Team Room if you can gain admission. You forced me to traverse the edge of the light fantastic, and I count my blessings that I was able to return to Old Spice and Bay Rum Ville. I shall not go again.
I agree, the handle is worse than DSC, but the blades are better. My masculinity is not very toxic, as I only have to shave every other day. I also shave in the shower and I get several shaves out of a blade. Even with the lowest DSC shipping amount, I ended up quitting two years ago and it took me two years to use up all the blades I stockpiled.
I’m required to be clean shaven every day at work . (Sucks and I hate it.) So for a good while I was on the DSC 5 blade option. Honestly, the Harry’s handle isn’t bad at all. I shave in the shower as well, and haven’t had any slips. They started carrying Harry’s at Target. So I just buy them there as I need them. They do have the handles and blade refills.
since 2007. Blades are absolutely dirt cheap and they work exceptionally well. You’ll get a better shave in less time with less irritation once your skin adjusts. Once you get your technique down you’ll slice hair cleanly off, as opposed to multi-blade razors that actually yank on the hair before the actual cut is performed. Blades from Wilkinson Sword and Derby are my personal favorites.
There are some really good shave creams and soaps out there as well, which can be fun to try. When I’m short in time regular Barbasol applied with a brush works damn good too and a can will last you weeks if not months.
It really amounts to a “penny” shave club. I have a straight razor as well but I was never able to learn the honing and stropping well enough.
