What do you guys have to say about this complete top end (minus the BCG)?
Curious as to what those in the know think of this set up. As good as say a comparable LMT or Colt?
I’m not asking “Do you like the GG&G rails it comes with?” Or the flip-up front sight. I’m specifically refering to the build quality itself.
If one is in the market for an M4-style upper, how does this one stack up in your opinion? For $585 it looks like a preety sweet deal to me. LMT is rumored to make the base upper for GG&G, but I don’t know if that’s actually the case.

Build quality is most likely fine, but in a gun that’s going to get banged around you don’t want flip up sights, so them stating that it’s got all the “most sought after urban warfare components” is a little out there.
For that money you can’t go wrong with the features, but I’d get something different.

This is all I can find…which looks as good as the better brands IMO.
Why is that? Overall I like GG&G stuff, especially their sights, but I’ve never seen an AR in person that had one of their rails installed. Just looking for info here as I am shopping for a carbine rail (DD Omega is my top choice so far).
I have a Dominator 1 upper from GG&G and I will make the following observations:
1.It is accurate enough for my purposes, regularly doing ragged 5 shot cloverleafs at 50 yds and 1.5-2 inch groups at 100yds with shitty adcom ammo.
2.I shitcanned the GG&G non free floating rail and replaced it with a Knights RAS because I did not like the somewhat proprietary nature of the rails on the GG&G unit.
3.The barrel markings and the Engraving FONT on the upper reciever is an extremely strong resemblance to LMT stuff,so much in fact that it would not surprise me if GG&G were buying uppers /barrels from LMT and retrofitting proprietary items themselves. I have no way to confirm this but if any of you guys do,please chime in.
Since I got it as part of a trade deal,I would say that I am happy with it but I would not purchase one, instead I would do as Grant suggessted and get an LMT with a Larue or other rail.
I own a Dominator-1 and two of LMT’s MRP (CQB and Standard). The Dominator-1’s upper assembly is made by LMT and that is also why GG&G recommends LMT Bolt assemblies.
As far as accuracy goes, I was putting holes in pennies with Wal-Mart Federal 55-grain ammo at 25-35 yards. My 1-in-7 twist barrel loves the 75-grain Hornady TAP ammo. Fast twist barrels shoot and have better control on the heavier bullets. You will notice this on shots over 100 yds. If you plan to shoot mostly 55-grain bullets, get a 1-in-9 twist.
The handguard is not a free-floating set-up. If you plan to stack a bunch of shit on the rail, make it a free-floater. There are a lot to choose from so base it on quality and price. I personally like the handguard it comes with. There are covers on the rail where your hand fits and the offset 45 degree on the right side is perfect for a Tac light with switch or button.
Someone mentioned breaking the flip-up front sight. Yes, this is possible if you drop it from a two story window with the sight opened. In that case, don’t expect the weapon to be worth a shit if you treat it that way. This flip-up is not fragile by any means and can be changed if needed by replacing the gas block or removable pin.
Don’t listen to biased people who push and “Sell” the products they carry. Based on my personal and Military experience, I typically stick to LMT, COLT, Armalite, and KAC, but this upper is made of high quality and would go to battle with it any day.
I owned one. I liked it but ended up selling it for stuff I liked better. In hindsight I wish I had done more research before buying one. Live and learn I guess. I was under the impression (from barrel and upper) that it was LMT made. No comfirmation on that though. The rail sucks, and the FSB is clamp on which will not hold up like pinned.
