So I sold my DSA FAL Para, over the weekend, along with my SCAR 17, I have one MWS with a SS 20" barrel setup for long range, I want to get another MWS, but I cant decide on a 16" chrome lined or 16" Stainless barrel, thoughts?
2 is 1, but why not just get a barrel? What kind of optics do you have?
And if recent threads are any indication, peoPle are going to ask about taking a class.
I thought about that but since I sold two rifles, my present MWS has a PRS stock on it, US Optics SN3, it’s heavy and takes some to swap it back to the retractable, and the SN3 is big and heavy, I want a truck rifle. My optics will be a Nightforce 2.5x10 in a LaRue SPR mount.
16 inch barrel would make for a more compact “truck gun”. You already have a 20 inch, I would go with the 16 to fulfill the more compact category. I am going in the opposite direction you are. I have the 16 but I want the 18 or maybe the 20.
I know exactly what you mean. I have a 3-15 Premier that I use with the 18in barrel and a PRS stock, but that is a bit much for a run-gun set-up with like a SOPMOD/ACS stock set-up with a 16CL barrel.
I think the real issue is that we have both over-scoped the gun a bit. Since the 1-8 scopes aren’t the silver bullet that people had hoped for- The second scope you mentioned- the 2.5-10 is perfect optic for the medium range shooting the gun is great at- and add on offset T-1 and you can handle the near stuff. I shot a Larue OBR with that scope and really liked it- the only thing it lacks is a FFP reticle for rapid engagements.
It sounds like you are not going to go gun/barrel rich and optic poor- so that is good. My 3-15 is destined for a bolt gun, I think if you start shooting the 2.5-10 you might make that your default scope for both set-ups- just a guess.
I think the 16CL barrel, or even one with a pinned BABC or brake makes a great offset to a longer SS barrel- but I think a lot of people would argue that the CL barrel is good enough for everything.
If it is a truck gun and you are considering a complete new rifle, have you looked at a Larue Predator- you’d at least have upper and mag compatability with the LMT- something you didn’t have with the SCAR. The Predator will also be lighter than the MWS in any config.
I got one MWS, but I run 2 different setups depending on what I want to do. I went with the UBR stock, with slashes ar10 heavy buffer. She runs smooth, and it works well for me either runnin n gunnin, or precision use. Since you got the larue mount, it wouldn’t take, but a few minutes to change out the barrel from blaster, to precision. I got my stock barrel cut to OAL 16" and run it with a M4s and AFG2 for blasting, and throw my NF 2.5-10x32 in larue mount on, with bipod and 18" SS barrel for tack driving. Thats the beauty of the MWS. Just seems like a lot of money to spend for what you want to do, but if you are dead set on the PRS…
No what I did was, I sold my SCAR 17 and DSA FAL PAra, over the weekend, I have one MWS now, that I put a PRS stock, Slash’s buffer and spring, Giessel Trigger, 20" stainless barrel, US Optics 3.2x17 TPAL, for long range shooting and varmiting its perfect, but with the way its set up its heavy, I like the MWS platform, so I’m thinking, I have the cash to pick up another one, I will leave it as a 16" and go with a Nightforce 2.5x10 it will be a truck gun, something accurate, but handy, use around the ranch, what I’m wondering is do I want another stainless barrel or just go standard CL? I have a LaRue mount now so all I need is the scope, and one of Slash’s buffer and springs. I have another TA11 but I think I will want more, it was fine for the FAL, but the MWS can outshoot a FAL anyday.
