Get some guns range

I recently went to the get some guns and ammo store and while I was there I asked if the range would handle steel core ammo (M855). The employee I asked said that the range couldn’t handle steel core rounds. Later on I was on their website and they had some info on their range. They state on their website that their range could handle .50 armor piercing no problem. Now I’m confused , how can the range handle that powerful of a round and not 5.56 steel core rounds? Any thoughts?

He didn’t know what he was talking about, I suppose

There is a local range that will let you shoot steel cased 7.62x39 all day long but no steel cased 9x18 makarov…

I agree that it sounds like the guy didn’t know what he was talking about. I shoot at the Get some Guns and Ammo here and you can shoot any ammo. I’ve seen steel core shot there, and everything up to .50 BMG. If you can shoot .50 BMG, i would assume steel core 5.56 would be fine.

.

The guy works at a Gun Shop, he has to know what he’s talking about.

But maybe it’s just me…

Recieved an e-mail from Get some. Here is what they said:

We dont allow armour piercing ammo of any kind.* The trap its self can handle it but the walls and ceiling could be seriously damaged by an errant round.* We cant take the chance.* But we allow any fmj or hollow point.* Thanks

The e-mail they sent me doesn’t say anything on steel core rounds though.

Do they collect pistol brass for reloading commercially themselves? That could be a likely answer.

This is the next e-mail they sent me and I had to laugh a little at what they said.

No, M855 is case hardened, armour penatrator. Plus its more expensive to shoot(unless you bought several years ago) but to replace it would cost you more than your saving. Thanks

As has been told on forums throughout this site many times, the M855 is NOT armour piercing. Also, the part where he says the M855 is more expensive to shoot is ridiculous. I have searched everywhere ( and I have tried everywhere online and what stores we have in utah) for 5.56 ammo and the cheapest I have found is a 420 round ammo can of M855 for $129.99! From the math that I have done, that comes to $6.19 per 20 rounds! Maybe I’m wrong, but I had to laugh at this e-mail.

It’s their range and their rules. They may be morons, but I think you are pissing up a rope. Especially since whomever is answering your emails is stuck on the fact that M855 is armor piercing.

so go in and ask to shoot your M2 with SLAP rounds…

HAHA I love how they are worried about errant M855 rounds damaging their ceiling and walls…but not errant .50s

Classic

Idiots are mystified by M855 for some reason.

If you have IMI m855, they wouldn’t know the difference. :secret:
