Get ready for 20 million new welfare recipients at a cost to the taxpayers $20K each.

Due to the low skill level and low earning potential of the illegal immigrants in the US, if legalized they would become instant welfare recipients costing the U.S. taxpayers about $20K each in health care, section 8 housing, food stamps, etc.

Several Senators have learned of a possible plan by the Obama Administration that would provide a mass Amnesty for the nation’s 11-18 million illegal aliens. Led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), eight Senators addressed a letter to the President asking for answers to questions about a plan that would allow DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to provide an amnesty if they can’t secure enough votes for a bill in the Senate.

The letter that was sent to Pres. Obama earlier today asks the President for clarification on the use of deferred action or parole for illegal aliens. The executive actions are typically used in special cases and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but if 60 votes can’t be secured in the Senate to pass a mass Amnesty, the Administration may use the discretionary actions as an alternative.

Here is the text of the letter signed by Sens. Grassley, Hatch (R-Utah), Vitter (R-La.), Bunning (R-Ky.), Chambliss (R-Ga.), Isakson (R-Ga.), Inhofe (R-Okla.), and Cochran (R-Miss.).

Dear President Obama:

We understand that there’s a push for your Administration to develop a plan to unilaterally extend either deferred action or parole to millions of illegal aliens in the United States. We understand that the Administration may include aliens who have willfully overstayed their visas or filed for benefits knowing that they will not be eligible for a status for years to come. We understand that deferred action and parole are discretionary actions reserved for individual cases that present unusual, emergent or humanitarian circumstances. Deferred action and parole were not intended to be used to confer a status or offer protection to large groups of illegal aliens, even if the agency claims that they look at each case on a “case-by-case” basis.

While we agree our immigration laws need to be fixed, we are deeply concerned about the potential expansion of deferred action or parole for a large illegal alien population. While deferred action and parole are Executive Branch authorities, they should not be used to circumvent Congress’ constitutional authority to legislate immigration policy, particularly as it relates to the illegal population in the United States.

The Administration would be wise to abandon any plans for deferred action or parole for the illegal population. Such a move would further erode the American public’s confidence in the federal government and its commitment to securing the borders and enforcing the laws already on the books.

We would appreciate receiving a commitment that the Administration has no plans to use either authority to change the current position of a large group of illegal aliens already in the United States, and ask that you respond to us about this matter as soon as possible

Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl told the audience at a North Tempe Tea Party town hall meeting that during a private, one-on-one meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, the President told him, regarding securing the southern border with Mexico, “The problem is, . . . if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’”

look we never had an illegal immigration problem even long ago when we had swarms of immigrants, because we enforced the border. No new laws need to be made.

If this is done via EO, what is stopping him from say… banning all civilian possession of firearms and ammunition via EO (or anything else)?

Didn’t stop Bush in 89.

Very true.

I think the actual route is that he would pardon them for the crime of being here illegally. Talk about an end to the Obama agenda. He might end up being a 3/4 termer.

The next pres could rescind it, and it isn’t like they would get citizenship, they would be off the hook for being here illegally.

It also has the potential to add millions of new Democrat voters to the rolls overnight, making them a permanent majority party.

I don’t think they would get to vote, at least legally. They would be given amnesty, not citizenship. Even Obama can’t magically change citizenship requirements, otherwise he would get all of KEnya and Palestine on the voter rolls.

So even if they get 20 million new votes, that is less than 10% of the voting public- I would bet they would loose more than 10%.

Plus, the Republicans freed the slaves, lot of good that is doing them now.

Never say never. The obamists have a lot of underhanded tricks up their sleeves.

Couple those facts with the reality that many will not be paying into the system (read cash jobs/not reporting income to IRS etc.) due to low skill sets / tradecraft levels and ONLY be a liability on our new healthcare reform & entitlement programs yada yada…

Stick a fork in us.
FUBAR…

The more I think about it the more I tend to fall in with this line of thought. If you told someone 100 years ago that blacks would overwhelmingly vote democrat they would have looked at you as if you were insane.

Here is the thing. Noone ran across a border to live in squalor and poverty. They do it because under the current system they have no choice and being poor here in America is better than being poor in Mexico. If poof they are now citizens, many would turn from the menial, cash under the table jobs that are their only current choice and look for better jobs. As they enter the tax rolls they will start to see how much the .gov is stealing from them.

Of course some will end up on welfare and lifetime leeches, but I don’t think it will be in mass amounts predicted because most of these people are not afraid of getting a job and working (unlike many of the American born citizens who view lifetime welfare as a birthright).

This is assuming that most of the folks coming over are willing to work, report earnings to the IRS, etc. At this point in time, we cannot afford this influx of illegals.

I think Hoploethos will attest that sneaking across the border is a fairly hard task. Most Americans won’t get out of their cars when they '‘run to the border’ at Taco Bell. If we could trade Mexico one physically able person for one of our welfare people, that might be a good trade. Give them half the benefits they would get here in the US and they can live like kings down there, and we get a motivated worker.

My wife is in health care and she sees mothers from Mexico come here to have their kids so that they can have US citizenship, kind of like Blue Whales travelling south to whelp their babies every year, but in reverse.

In a related topic, isn’t someone going after the 14th(?)A and the concept of being born here instantly confers citizenship. Meant to protect slaves, I don’t think any other western country has such a policy.

My biggest question is, if these illegals are in the US to jobs that US citizens won’t do, what happens when these illegals become citizens? Who digs ditches then?

Offer wages high enough, and Americans will do the work. Thats how capitalism works. If you can’t get people to do the work at the wages you are offering then you are offering too little in pay. How it works now is companies hire illegals, and pay them cash for scrap wages. Of course Americans are not going to do that work for that pay because that pay does not offer any type of standard of living by American standards. I can go work at a gas station, and sit in AC all day for the same wages companies want to pay for back breaking work.

I was just outside, and realized Im maybe 1 of 5 people on my street who actually does their own yard work. The majority are hiring mexicans do it. One crew right now is going 4-5 houses at once. Shit like that is why they come here. They can mow grass all day, and make 5X as much as they can in mexico.

STOP GLOBAL WARMING AT THE BORDER!!!

-Cheap labor has lead to an explosion in housing, and house size- which uses more resources to build and more energy to heat and cool.
-With two income families, people wouldn’t have time to clean their house, so they have illegals do it. No illegals, smaller, more manageable houses.
-Cheap yard care workers allow people to grow more plants and grass, which use more water- a problem in itself, but it also takes energy to move all that water around.
-Look at the carbon released per capita for the US and Mexico- every Mexican that moves to America is destroying our planet.

SAVE THE POLAR BEARS, CLOSE THE BORDER!!!

you never know what’s hiding in the health care bill or the stimulus bill.

If the government didn’t stick their nose everywhere, the cost of living would be alot cheaper.

And you wonder how this is going to happen?

Immigrant farm workers’ challenge: Take our jobs

to quote: California’s agriculture industry launched a similar campaign in 1998, hoping to recruit welfare recipients and unemployed workers to work on farms, he said. Three people showed up.

“Give us a legal, qualified work force. Right now, farmers don’t know from day to day if they’re going to get hammered by ICE,” he said, referring to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “What happens to my labor pool?”

His organization supports AgJobs, a bill currently in the Senate which would allow those who have worked in U.S. agriculture for at least 150 days in the previous two years to get legal status.

The bill has been proposed in various forms since the late 1990s, with backing from the United Farm Workers of America and other farming groups, but has never passed.

Take away welfare, AFDC, HEAT assistance, section 8 housing, free cell phones for bums, etc. and Americans will be happy to that work. Work or starve.
