Gents, my home was burglarized.

I came home friday night after work to find my door ajar and a window busted in. I immediately got back in my truck and drove up the street to call the police, as thanks to being Active Duty I couldn’t have a weapon with me going to and from work. I waited 15 minutes for the police to respond, who went in the house, confirmed no one was still there, and left. I then waited an hour for forensics to show up, who spent an hour dusting for prints and what not and got nothing. Today, I called ADT to ask WTF and discovered my house was not being monitored like I’ve been paying for for two months.

Hommies threw a brick through a window, went in, grabbed $10k worth of shit, including all of my guns, all of my personal info, and my computer which had all the pictures of my recently deceased dad on it. They went out the front door, I think something spooked them as it looks like they dropped my TV and ran out.

I recently moved in, I suspect they knew that. I had an ADT sign in the yard, on the window, all that. They went in through the side of the house none of my neighbors can see.

My only regret is that I wasn’t home to turn a body or two cold.

Time for some security film and broken glass sensors.

Man that really sucks, your off serving your country while low life’s are ruining it. I hope the burglars get nut cancer and die slow and painfully.

Sorry to hear about your burglary. That’s some pretty dickless shit. Hit up some local pawn shops and Craigslist every couple days to see if any of your stuff turns up.

Had a similar moment for me with my alarm. I changed companies and when I did I found out the it hadn’t been working right for months.

There’s got to be some recourse with the alarm company, no?

At best, I can get them to pay my homeowner’s insurance deductable. Anyone had to file a home claim with USAA? I know they couldn’t be better about car insurance, I’m hoping I don’t get some lame “depreciated” settlement though.

Were your guns scheduled on a personal property floater? If not you probably have a 5,000 sub limit for the peril of theft…

They were, thankfully.

That’s good news! You should have a replacement cost coverage.

USAA is GREAT insurance. Consistently rated #1. If you had a rider, you will be covered.

Got any claymores?

I had occasion to use USAA’s insurance during the Irene storm when our basement flooded. They were terrific, easy to file and I was paid very quickly. Sorry that you went through that but I’d be surprised if USAA doesn’t do right by you.

Have any workers or movers over lately?

Are you in a bad area? Live with anyone else?

How much does USAA pay for firearms?

I’d seriously consider going after adt. If you are paid up to date for their service and they didn’t respond they’ve got to be liable. Very sorry to hear of the theft, I hope you get a quick resolution and recovery from the loss.

Man that sucks, especially the photos.

We should all learn from this, you can now buy 128G thumb drives on Amazon for $30.00. Cheap and easy back up solution, just don’t leave it plugged into the computer.

if possible, i would recommend a security door with dual cylinders on every enty to the house. if they go in through a window, they will have to go back out through the window unless they want to break the security door down. pair that with security glass film and it would make a smash and grab MUCH more difficult.

100% This. I can recover all the money and my family can probable duplicate most of what was on the computer, but it wont be everything. I would even go further and get something off sight. I think I may have lost all the pictures from my last deployment as well. Not to mention they have my passport and dog tags, so I’m sure that will be fantastic.

Fortress J8127 is getting the Waco treatment as we speak, suddenly lifelock, carbon backup, etc… seem like a steal (no pun intended).

I’m gonna spend my insurance settlement on a moat of acid and a mail order bride so I can have 17 mastiffs.

Sorry to hear this man. I think my head would explode. Or maybe implode…

I hope that by some chance you one day figure out who was responsible. I suspect justice would be served in this case.

I’ve had some delivery people from places like Lowes, but I think this was just lowlifes. I just moved in so some one probably noticed the boxes to all the new toys in my trash, or they were just smart, like I said they came in through the side of my house nobody can see. I’m not in the worst place, but it wasn’t exactly shocking to the police either.

USAA pays up to $10k for firearms as part of their normal homeowners insurance, but I also had specific insurance on all my firearms (it actually lowered my overall bill because it got me a “multiple products” discount).

My squad area has a few very nice neighborhoods in it. Like 15 million dollar homes and pro athletes kind of neighborhood. The nice area get burglarized too. A lot of times it’s even easier because people see the nice neighborhood as false security and leave shit unlocked.

J8127 it could have been a set up or you were just unlucky. We recently busted a crew here that had done dozens of houses in a few week span. Up to 9 a day. There is no way they planned all of those. Many they just picked what looked good.

Sucks man but I bet USAA takes care of you.

Sorry to hear what happened to you OP. Its one of my worst nightmares to have someone break in while I’m NOT home to defend my property.

I am curious though concerning the guns, if people would suggest using concealing furniture, etc, that would basically make the items hidden in plain sight vs using a easily targeted gun safe (i.e., a gun hidden inside the headboard of your bed, or the old hollowed out book method)? Or use both, and keep the less expensive guns in the safe as a distraction. Of course that is situation dependent, especially if you have children running around.

Just hang your rifle on a store dummy dressed in 5.11 gear with the muzzle pointed at the door while you’re away
